At least 751 Iraqi security personnel have been killed since a U.S.-Iraqi security crackdown began on Feb 14. During the same length of time immediately preceding Feb. 14, at least 593 Iraqi security personnel were killed, according to figures compiled by The Associated Press.

Can't wait to see how quickly and pathetically the White House will try spin this - but then again, who am I kidding - as if anyone takes them seriously to begin with! If it were not all so tragic it would be fun to watch them squirm, which they are doing more and more of as they can no longer fake the convinction they pretend to have.

That's hilarious. You sound damp over this.

It's clearly not hilarious, but our escalation & crackdown have so far produced a 25% increase in deaths of Iraqi security personnel.

I imagine the administration says that such an increase was to be expected -- but for how much longer? Another 3 months? Another 3 years?

Just curious, and I don't have the answer, but how many terrorists and armed Islamic radicals have we sent to the great spice cake feast and virgin bestowment in the sky since the surge started?

You think it's a joke. That's obvious from the title of the post. When fighting increases, fatalities do as well. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. Remember when our grandfathers stormed the French beaches? More of them died that day than would have if they stayed in the UK that day. I'm not at all surprised that you find enjoyment in this. At least you don't mask your position of defeatism.

Since the idea is that the Iraqis are supposed to be taking over, is it possibly a good sign that more of them are being killed? As in, they are more involved in combat and are the ones getting killed instead of US forces?

Somebody please explain who you think our friends are in Iraq? Other than the Kurds..... who benefits by our soldiers dying and our coffers emptying?

6th, it's clearly not a joke, and I acknowledge that I should have chosen a non-sarcastic title for the thread.

And yes, your characterizing my comments as "defeatist" are as perceptive as you've been on this board. Websters defines it as 'accepting of or resigned to defeat' and I honestly can't imagine any other outcome from what we're doing there ... what would a 'victory' look like to you, and how shall it be acheived?

I'm not being facetious here -- how would you define, measure and acheive victory here? Several of my father's close friends died that day you refer to in Normandy, or in the ensuing months. Their hard-won victory was to defeat & dismantle the Reich. To me, 'bringing freedom' to the middle east is a much more vaporous, if not nonsensical, goal. If the goal is to control their energy reserves, at least cop to that & thereby tell these kids what they're getting blown up for.
