EMS Week Day 3: Safety Day

So far in 2022, SWFD Advanced Life Support (ALS) crews have responded to 12 Motor Vehicle Accidents involving Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs), or “street legal” golf carts. Unfortunately, these crashes often result in multiple patients with severe, or potentially fatal, injuries.

For this third day of EMS Week, we’ve put together 10 Golf Cart Safety Tips, which also reference current Florida laws for operating a LSV.

If you’d like to learn more about legally and safely driving LSVs in SoWal, visit this link: Low Speed and All-Terrain Vehicles

You mean juggling a cell phone, beer and baby isn't safe while driving a riding mower with a roof?!?

The people who rent these things are from the same cohort that can't grasp what is essentially a two colored beach flag safety scheme. Too many words aimed at a group who does not give a damn given that they are on vacation.

Not if the baby is driving which is often the case.

Number one safety tip: drive them on the golf course where they belong. Stay off the roads.

The electric golf carts are similar to electric cars. We drive ours safely around our neighborhood and obey all laws. Will not let our grandchildren drive them. We drive and park only where cars drive and park (our maximum neighborhood speed is 25). We have similar problems here but not as many people. People driving them where they shouldn't. Letting their young children drive them. (We have a golf community across from us so they come over frequently for our restaurants and shops.) Too many Americans are either unaware or don't care. One good thing about 30A becoming so expensive: we only come down early in the year or later in the year when there are fewer people. I miss the 'old' days; we are long time visitors. I can't imagine living there with all the changes - too many people. It's one thing for a building to be torn down but a wonderful beach community that no one knew about? I use to tell people it was half way between Destin & PCB. Ellen.
