2019 SEASON - SEASONAL LIFEGUARDS
Become a Lifeguard on the Beach!

The South Walton Fire District (SWFD) is currently accepting applications for the upcoming Beach Safety season.

Walton County is located in the Panhandle of Northwest Florida. We cover 26 miles of Beach, both public and private.

Lifeguard towers are located at (14) access points:

We use ATVs for "roving & response."

Our Season begins March 1st and runs through October 31st.
We will be continuously hiring throughout the season as needed.

Position Requirements include:
· At least 17 years of age
· High school diploma
· Able to work weekends and public holidays
· In good physical condition
· Possession of a valid driver's license
· Complete a 500 meter swim in less than 10 minutes
· Complete a 1.2 mile beach run in less than 11:30 minutes
· Successful completion of background check and drug screen - paid for by SWFD.
Upon employment, candidates must successfully complete the SWFD's
· 40 Hour Open Water Lifeguard Orientation (USLA Curriculum),
· 48 Hour Emergency Medical Responder
· 4 Hour CPR Pro Course,
· 8 Hour SWFD Orientation Training,
· 4 hour VFIS ATV Operator Certification.
104 Hours of training are provided at the District's expense.

Those with previous USLA experience are paid a training wage of Florida's minimum wage of $8.25/hour for recertification requirements to be hired.

This is a seasonal position that does not offer a benefits package.

Entry level pay: $13.00 per hour, up to $16.00, with USLA and/or EMT experience

Full-time schedule is 42.5 hour work week.
- 2.5 hours Overtime per week.
- There are numerous additional opportunities to work Overtime shifts throughout the season.

Part-time schedule flexibility available.

Swim tryouts are on-going. You will need to submit your Driver’s license and social security card.

Emergency Medical Responder / CPR Classes will commence in January and be conducted on-going on as needed basis for new hires.
