Job Description
This newly created position will provide a more authentic and consistent voice for Walton County’s travel and tourism brand. The Specialist will write, develop and integrate content across paid, owned, and earned media channels. The position is responsible for gaining positive exposure for the destination, its partners, and events/festivals in local, regional, and national publications, blogs and online channels. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Specialist must be an exceptional writer and editor, know how to consistently build a sense of community, identify relevant topics for key audiences, create engaging written content and implement best practice strategies in storytelling across all channels.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist the Communications Director to develop the annual content strategy, identify relevant performance indications, and prepare monthly ROI reports.
• Understand the Visit South Walton brand, brand standards, goals, and audiences to create tailored messaging.
• Schedule, research, write and distribute original branded content. Ensure information is accurate, accessible, and user-friendly.
• Build relationships with travel writers, bloggers, and media influencers.
• Stay current with industry groups, trends, tools, and applications.
• Apply search engine optimization (SEO) best practices to content development related to online channels to ensure content integrates keywords, latest trends and tools; incorporates labeled image(s), local news announcements, video or other supporting content, as available; and has relevant tags and descriptions.
• Solicit industry partner content for the calendar of events and keep database current.
• Analyze key performance metrics in order to make necessary adjustments related to development of effective content.
• Collaborate with internal departments, local stakeholders and others as needed to curate content in support of marketing defined objectives.
• Serve as part of the Communication team support for the Walton County Emergency Management Partners Team to deliver emergency communications to media and/or industry partners when the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated.
• Identify need for images/video to support content.
• Perform other duties as assigned. Adhere to work schedule and attendance requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Content Development Specialist - • Exceptional verbal, written, and technical presentation skills with an emphasis on copywriting, editing, and proofreading.
• Content and editorial planning, project management and organizational skills.
• Experience with content management systems (CMS), media platforms, analytics, metrics, and reporting.
• Understanding of primary social platforms with ability to learn emerging technologies.
• Strong knowledge of CMS, ICT and marketing/communications industry best practices.
• Ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions and to exercise attention to detail in performing tasks.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while remaining detail oriented.
• Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings and emergency 12-hour shifts if the EOC is activated.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, courtesy, discretion, and initiative.

Qualifications, Training and Experience
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Journalism, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Professional Writing, English Composition or similar field is required.
• Two or more years of content development experience to include conceptualizing, writing and editing as evidenced by a portfolio of work.
• Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) or hospitality industry experience preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
