Press Release from TDC:

In support of a growing trend, the Walton County Tourist Development Council has developed the Nature Based Certification Program. The TDC is inviting qualified businesses and outfitters who may be interested in certifi cation to apply.
The program provides nature based business operators, individuals and organizations an opportunity to gain knowledge on the natural areas of Walton County and to assist in increasing the profits of their businesses.
In partnership with the University of Florida?s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences participants are required to take the Master Naturalist course. The TDC will sponsor eligible participants for the two-month course, which begins in March.
This educational enhancement will provide the participant the necessary information to deliver an accurate natural experience and to implement environmentally sound practices that contribute to the conservation, protection and enjoyment of Walton County?s natural resources.
?As a nature-based certified business I have received many opportunities to tour travel writers and my business has benefi ted significantly,? said Truett Senterfitt, owner and operator of Choctawhatchee Delta Tours.
Senterfitt?s business received media exposure in an Atlanta Journal Constitution article.
The Walton County TDC provides an abundance of marketing opportunities for certifi ed businesses. Participants will receive enhanced listings within the Beaches of South Walton annual travel guide, and recognition as a certifi ed outfitter in the Art, Nature and Cultural guide as well as the offi cial Beaches of South Walton Web site (www.beachesofsouthwalton.com). In addition, certified businesses will have the opportunity to host media to achieve local, regional and national publicity for their business.
Participants receiving certification will be announced at the TDC?s Annual Meeting in October.
To apply for certification and for more information regarding sponsorship for the course (limited), contact Tiffany McCaskill, new product development manager, at (850) 267-1216 or via e-mail at tmccaskill@beachesofsouthwalton.com. Application deadline is March 9.
