For several years now, my family (husband & 2 kids) has rented a small condo on the beach in Seacrest for Spring Break. We love it. This year we are foregoing the Spring Break trip and are planning a large family gathering in June instead. The extended family generally vacations on the Atlantic, and most of them have never seen this part of Florida before. We are excited to introduce them to this beautiful area that we adore. We need a large gulf-front house. Some of the accommodations we've found are in Blue Mountain Beach.

Problem is that I don't know anything about 30A west of Grayton (which we are also considering). I'm turning to you guys to help me learn a little something about the personality of 30A west of Grayton, and of Blue Mountain Beach in particular. Can we bike from Blue Mtn to Seaside and Watercolor (as we do now from Seacrest)? I am in love with the dunes around Watersound, Deer Lake and Grayton. Are there nice dune landscapes west of Grayton? Dune lakes? We spend a lot of time on bikes and on the beach and cook most of our meals. Being from Atlanta where we commute 70+ miles a day, we don't want to be in the car very much when we're there.

I would really appreciate any information you can provide. I don't think we will be able to squeeze in a scouting trip before we book a place, and I'd like a better understanding of the area before I plop down a sizable deposit.

Thanks so much!

Yes the bike path runs to BmB and is actually alot closer to Grayton than Seacrest. And there are lakes that direction also. I am just curious if you have looked at "VRBO" for some rentals. I recently had to put up a tribe of inlaws and found some really good deals on there.

Blue Mountain Beach
I live on Blue Mt. Beach year round and it is beautiful. Sea Bluff is a 19 townhouse unit at the highest point between Appalachicola and Pensacola. Warning--our walkover to the beach is 68 steps. I am sure you would enjoy the area and the townhomes. All but two are for rent through rental agencies such as Dune Allen and others. They are about l600 sq. ft, two bedroom, two bath and a 1/4 bath downstairs. While everyone could not remain in one unit, all units are close together and accessible easily to all. You might want to consider this type of arrangement instead of all being in one large house. Blue Mountain Beach is beautiful and nowadays in the middle of everything. We decided to move here permanently in 2003 after spending winters here and summers in Edmondl, Ok. We've never regretted it for a minute. (Except sometimes when we get disturbed about stuff on SoWal). By all means, consider the West end of the beach. IT IS GREAT!

Blue Mountain Beach
Gardening 1970, I am not just pushing Sea Bluff. There are many others in the area as well. Seacliffs, Blue Mt. Villas, Bella Vitta, Adagio and the Inn at Blue Mt. Beach to name a few. I forgot to mention that Sea Bluff also has a very nice swimming pool in the middle of the complex. In short, Blue Mountain Beach is a wonderful area with nice beaches and clear green water. Just beautiful!

Thanks for the info Andy and Jodi. We are considering several places in the area, as well as a few large houses in Grayton. In response to Jodi's question, I have noticed a number of reasonably priced rentals on VRBO, especially west of Grayton. We've always rented through companies in previous years but would consider a VRBO if the property/price was a match for our needs.

Thanks again for your input. Any other comments would also be warmly welcomed.

The West end is nice. Plenty of natural attractions, bike paths, shopping and restaurants. The beaches have a sense of privacy, the walkovers are numerous and the lakes are beautiful. You would not be disappointed.

If you decide to venture off 30-A, it is that much closer. Grand Blvd., Baytowne wharf, etc. would only be about 10 minutes away. Your proximity to the Publix grocery store would be about the same also.

Have a nice vacation.

If your looking to be close to everything, shopping, movies, kids fun, hospital, groceries, and not too many beach condos (at this time), the west end of 30 A might be for you.

Try the "Aruba" property at vrbo. We stayed in Blue Mtn. Beach this past July for the first time and absolutely loved the area and house. It is very close to the beach, accommodates large groups, and has a magnificient kitchen. We are planning to return next year.
