I stumbled on this website.

http://www.classicalexcursions.com/tours/tourDetail.asp?t=21

Apparently SoWal (or Florida's Design Coast as they refer to it!) is the subject of a specialty tour for folks interested in classical architecture and design. Tour includes visits to Seaside, Rosemary, and Alys Beach.

I haven't heard of SoWal being the focus of any organized tours along these lines before.

From the Website:

"The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America have arranged a private, extended weekend tour of three dynamic towns in the Florida Panhandle. The featured towns have been in the forefront of the growing movement to replace the banality of suburban sprawl with breakthrough community-focused town planning known as ?New Urbanism.?

Interesting.

Same company offers tours to Greece, Ireland, Italy etc. Nice to see SoWal diversifying it's tourism base.

I foresee many more "new urban" tours and seminars here in the years to come. SoWal will be a major area of study in architectural schools.

$1500/head double occupancy for 3 days (land only). That's $3000 per room or $1000/night and they're probably staying in the little efficiencies off season (3/11/07). Hell, let's have Uncle Timmy lead the tour and do it for $1295 each. :rotfl: Don't even see food included.

It's the lecture fees that drive the price up. Though I think Uncle Timmy could give as interesting a talk as any of them, in addition to having the extra of advantage of being a local. :clap_1:
