TRAVEL 7,000 MILES AND 2,000 YEARS
BACK IN HISTORY . . .
TO ANCIENT BETHLEHEM
Santa Rosa Beach, FL, October 12, 2007 -- (Good News United Methodist Church) -- For anyone searching for the real meaning of Christmas, the answer can be found in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of 2007 years ago at the third annual "Come See the Child", a free scripted, participatory outdoor drama presented by Good News United Methodist Church. After you make your first pilgrimage to "Come See the Child", you will find that this journey will become one of your most cherished Christmas traditions!
Once within the town of Bethlehem, you will find all five of your senses engaged with your surroundings. Be sure to register for the census, as decreed by Caesar Augustus, and if you’re lucky, you may be able to duck the local tax collectors. You’ll be tanatalized by the sounds, smells and chaos of the bustling marketplace of first century Bethlehem as you interact with traditional craftspeople, making rope, baking bread, and beading . . .but be careful not to cross the Roman centurions occupying the city or they may find reason to put you in prison! Youngsters (and those young at heart) will enjoy visiting with the animals, including Doug the donkey. Then, be awed by the miraculous birth in the Bethlehem stable.
"We just wanted to reach out in ways to people to help them to be open to the blessings of Christ, and that’s for anybody," says Randy Greene, pastor. "We do see it as reaching out to people who may not have a church home, but our emphasis is not, ‘Who’s going to come to Good News?’ but, ‘Who’s going to lift up Christ?’"
This gift to the community takes place on Friday, November 30, and Monday, December 1, 2007, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. You can expect a total time of about 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the journey. Monetary donations will be accepted for Caring & Sharing of South Walton (267-2866). Good News United Methodist Church is located at 4747 Highway 98 West (across from Bayou Bill’s), Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. For more information, call 622-9191 or visit
