FIRE
Today The Shadowman and I snuck away in the afternoon from South of 30A in Grayton to the North side to experience a late lunch at the new restaurant FIRE. It is a rare occasion for us to get away for lunch in the SoWal area. And we were delighted to find ourselves being served by an extremely poised team.
It was a quiet afternoon and we were welcomed to choose a room by the manager....of course I chose the Red Room, as red is my absolute favorite color. I took a peek in the other rooms, all of different colors, and I must say they have done a wonderful job changing the old into the new in such a short time!
I wish I had taken more time to look around, but we were so hungry and it was late.....yet Brenda, one of the owners, made us feel right at home and kept the kitchen open for us.
Well, let me get right down to the food and wine. First I ordered a glass of Riesling....Clean Slate from the slate covered vinyards of Germany. Ahhhhhhh, it was so refreshing, crisp and pairs well with seafood and spice. Since I had left my glasses I could not read the menu so The Shadowman ordered for us!!!
I knew to order the Olive dip, as Mr. & Mrs. Skunky had given us heads up on how good it was....but to make lunch even more decadent he ordered the Dip Trio ( Pick 3 dips served with Belgian Endive, Julienne Carrots, warm Pita and Tri-Colored Chips). The Shadowman picked the other 2.....Roasted Garlic-Feta Hummus and Spicy Roasted Red Pepper Peanut Cilantro. Try saying that 3 times!!!! Everything sounded wonderful so we added an order of Goat Cheese Polente Fries w/Smoked Tomato Ketchup AND an order of Eggplant, Heirloom Tomato, Fontina Napoleon. We were in heaven....and found ourselves eating with our fingers and licking every bit off.......and by this time I was ordering another glass of Riesling.
We ate, talked business, ate, talked business, ate.......forget the business we ate till we could only order a sandwich to split. Okay, so which to choose????? Our choice was, drum roll please........The Proscuitto-Provolone Ciabatta Panini.....with two, yes, two side orders of the Green Onion Bacon Potato Salad. Oh my gosh I can't begin to tell you what we liked best....you will just have to go and try as much of everything........like we did.
We were full and ready for a nap....but no we had to try dessert, right? Of course!!!! Jamie and I took a break....walked out to the foyer and talked with Brenda for a few minutes. She's delightful! But soon found ourselves rushing back to the cozy table just as our warm Molten Chocolate Dessert with a Raspberry Cream and plump raspberries was being brought out. It was quickly devoured. The perfect finish to our lunch in SoWal!
Please everyone take the time to stop by welcome them and have lunch or dinner with these wonderful people. They make a "Grayt" addition to our restaurant family in SoWal.
We wish you much luck Brenda and Thomas.......and your whole team!!!! The service was fantastic!
