To iPhone or not

Anybody have the iPhone? I'm finally out of contract with Verizon and I've been wanting the iPhone since it came out. I'm a MAC who will never be a PC again.

Will it live up to my grandiose expectations, or will I be disappointed and sorry I left VZ? How's AT&T to deal with? I don't want it for the camera or the texting, I want it because it is sooooo cool

I meant to try the allrecipes.com - will definitely get it.

Ok, back with ATT since Friday and mad at them already. Friday, I could get emails but not send - took the phone back in yesterday and now I can't send OR receive. They blamed it on mediacon but I can send and receive on my home puter so, uhhhh, Att, I think it is something about the way you are programming the phone - boo, hiss...... And it is a 48 mile round trip to the Destin store from my house!!!

I did add the ap where you could record a ringtone - havent' tried it yet.

I'm not mad at ATT, but I'm very leery of them now. I brought 4 new lines to them, from Verizon. Our monthly bill will, I'm sure, be in excess of 200 per month.
#1 they charged me activation fees on all four phones to the tune of about $120 bucks -- the ads all over on TV said "free activation." I call the 800 no. -- they credit me.
#2 My husband got a Motorola Karma that cost $100 with a $50 mail-in rebate. My younger son's phone also had a rebate. (My other son got the iPhone)

The catch: I had to take a 30/month unlimited texting package in order to get the rebates. I can cancel the package AFTER I get the rebates, but that could take 12 weeks, or $90 in text package money. I again call the 800 no. -- they credit the acct. $90.
#3 I see the exact same Motorola Phone that I got at the ATT store for 100 at Walmart for $33.83 -- no rebate, no text package. I call 1-800....they say, "you got your phones at an AUTHORIZED DEALER and we have no control over pricing. You are welcome to bring the phone back within 30 days for a $30 restocking fee... Now here's my issue with that....it makes no sense to jump thru those hoops for $17, and have my husband go without a phone for a day or two....And that store said ATT alllll over it in orange and blue. They were wearing ATT shirts, the store says ATT on the front, and they don't sell anything but ATT phones. I feel like they were trying to flim flam me every chance they got.....

All because Mommy wanted an iPhone.

Ok, this is very good to know about the 800 #. When I bought the iphone, I bought my husband a phone - $39.99 with $30.00 rebate and it would be $9.99 a month as another line. He didn't want the phone, I took it back on Monday after buying on Friday, NEVER took it out of the box and they are charging me a $35 restocking fee because it is now a USED phone. What is up with this?

I called the person I bought the phone from - explaining that I was never told about the restocking fee - would not have taken it out of the store if I knew this - Mr Seagrover lost his phone 1 1/2 years ago and is fine without one - so this is why I took it back. She said she would try to credit me - I will call the 800 #.

Also, got the iPhone email to work on my own - incoming and outgoing emails - so, why could I figure it out and 2 peeps that work there couldn't? :idontno:

Multimedia Messaging on iPhone available 9/25

iPhone multimedia messaging starts Sept. 25 - Wireless- msnbc.com

I think I just realized what this means to me.

I just took a photo of my dog baby sleeping on the forbidden sofa that my husband has painstakingly been restoring and reupholstering --in a very expenisve gold silk fabric  -- and I can't text a photo?

There is a cool app for iPhone that allows you to hold the phone up to the night sky, and it will show you which stars you should be seeing -- needs a little tweaking, but really cool.[/QUO

That is a way cool app called Distant Stars.

Just an FYI -- AT&T added the A-list plan to their family-share plans 1400 mintues and above.....this means you get to pick 10 phone numbers from any cell carrier or home lines that will not count towards your mintues. I was pretty excited to hear about this, since we teeter towards going over the minutes every month, now we won't have to worry as much.

I hadn't seen any advertising about this, I fell on it on the AT&T site today.

Another very cool APP is Red Laser where it takes a photo of a Bar Code on anything and runs out on the internet and finds the best price on anything! It's a one time cost of $1.99 and I have saved hundreds in less than a month.

Other cool APPS are the one for Directv which lets you pick shows and record them from any where in the World if you have the service.

To go with that is the TIVO APP where you can View the video as well. Sling has something similar but I think with a monthly fee. I'm hooked up to a friend Tivo and I change his channels all the time and freak him out... UPDATE: With Sling you just need to buy the box and APP and there is no monthly fee.

Also for Mac users is the Eye Tv APP that lets you watch live or prerecorded programs. At first it was over 3G network but currently limited to WIFI.

I heard about one today that you can take a picture of a check and it will deposit it in certain bank accounts preset up, thur meaning no more visits to the bank to make a deposit.

Also for small stores there is one that runs Credit Cards you may want to take as payment without having to lease a terminal.

Vonage Mobile lets you make International calls over Wifi for Pennies.

I live by Disney and there are several that tell the Wait Times on the Attractions.

My current favorite is a basic one that is "Around Me" It is used everyday.

I imagine soon it will control the AC in my house, text me a photo of who is at my Front Door or walking next to my Car and not to mention get rid of my copper land line that only Survey's and solicitors call.

There are another 70,000 APPS in the APP store... Where can one find the time to view them....

Currently you can download as many APPS as you want but you are limited to 11 pages on the iPhone. Don't understand why as their is no limit to the number of songs you can have on a iPhone other than memory size available. Lastly, it's easy to organize your APPS in any manner using iTunes instead of the phone itself. I've got well over 200...

May I suggest everyone adding the Trapster app? It will show, in real time, speed traps. Fight the power!

Trapster? - iPhone Speed Trap Alert Application

I have Trapster and I got a "bing" the other day that a patrol unit was sitting at 283 and 98 - pretty cool.

Unblock Me - free version - is kinda cool. Makes me think. It is a game of logic moving blocks around until until you can get the red one out. Reminds me of the hand held thingy where you had to move numbers around to put them in order - oh how deprived we were as children, us boomers. ;-)

Even when my babies WERE babies, I thought, Hey, I must be doing something wrong here -- I am just not busy or overwhelmed enough. I had always heard new mom's were SO busy they didn't have time to shower, or clean, or make meals, or get out of their pajamas. I was actually able to nap and shower, and make really nice meals, keep a really clean house, can vegetables in the summer, make my own pastas, etc.... So when I got pregnant with No. 2, I thought, oh, crap, I am IN for it now....being the mom of TWO will really make me busy....but alas, not so......I was still humming along at home, and started making pies and cakes for a caterer. I got so popular that I opened a small dessert cafe with my sister and we were really successful for 5 years. I hope I'm not divulging some big club secret, but motherhood is what you make it, and if you choose to be as overwhelmed as Woman's Day will have you believe you should be, you will be. Andif you choose to make it the best years of life, it can be that, too. {stepping of soapbox.}

I am a very hands-on dad. I SO agree with what you said. I don't get why parents make it out to be so hard and why so many can't seem to smell the roses. The stay at home dad/mom gig is a great deal.

I have a first generation iphone. Yes, I'm an oldie. Both girls have 3G, except the oldest girl's iphone met it's untimely death in a small round bowl of water. Don't put your iphone in your back pocket at a concert in a, well, you know! The hubbie refuses to be swayed to an iphone but we are hoping Santa brings him one. I'm ready to upgrade to a new model. I wouldn't have any other phone. I haven't had any trouble during my visits to SoWal.

love this new app:

I have never been all that attached to my cell phone - I can take it or leave it - just a tool for my convenience. the iphone is totally different - its so much more than a phone. loving all its many uses, including easy fast texting, emailing, browsing, great camera, an ipod, a kick a$$ calendar and contacts synced with my computer (finally!), and endless apps - many of which are very practical (yelp! restaurants and what you need while traveling... a map showing exactly where you are and how to get there, etc etc), and many of the apps are just the coolest ever such as Google Earth - the technology is amazing! you literally have the earth in your pocket - use your fingers to rotate the globe, zero in on a place, get info, follow a river, see anything on earth. lots of other universe/planet/constellation apps we're still exploring. and I'm still on just the freebies.
