Tourist Development Tax collection showed a 39.08% decrease in South Walton for November 2024 compared with the previous year, with $1,288,397.57 in total reported TDT. However, this amount is not representative of actual November collections due; the Walton County Clerk of Courts transitioned to a new tax portal, and several bed tax collectors have not yet remitted TDT for November 2024. The correct amount will be reflected with the January 2025 TDT collections for South Walton.

The Tourist Development Tax, or bed tax, is a 5% tax collected on hotels, condos, and other short-term rentals south of Choctawhatchee Bay. It is the best way to gauge visitation and demand trends in South Walton. The revenue supports tourism marketing and beach operations efforts, including cleaning and maintaining beaches, employing lifeguards, destination improvements, and preservation initiatives.

Tourist Development Tax collection on short-term rental accommodations north of the Choctawhatchee Bay totaled $28,465.23 for November 2024. Collections for November represent a 22.96% increase, or $3,543.93, compared with the previous year.

As of Dec. 1, the number of active rental units in South Walton was 19,033 and North Walton was 799 for a total of 19,832.
