Tell them to come in the nonpeak time and it won't be a problem finding a place for 3 nights.

Rather than a week in peak time we come 4 nights in the late Spring and 4 nights in the Fall.

Yes, however those with school aged children pretty much have to come during a peak time.

And are all the rental property owners so booked that we are sure four or five day rentals during the season are still out of the question?

It occurs to me that everyone is maintaining that the traffic problems revolve around check-in/out days. But it's funny, because I live and work on opposite ends of 30A, and therefore travel that portion of it on a daily basis. The biggest traffic jams that I'm seeing are not happening on weekends, but during the week, particularly around lunchtime.

Especially at the intersection of 30A and 395, where traffic will back up from the 3-way stop all the way past the Wheelhouse.

That can't be attributed to check-in/outs, because I don't usually seem to have that problem on Saturday, when I'm out running errands. Can't be attributed to the construction on the corner, because it's been happening for years.

So what's the deal? I understand that people get a little befuddled by the whole 3-way stop thing, but I just can't help but think we're looking in the wrong direction when we focus on the rental schedules. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't have a solution, but we've got an awful lotta smart people on this board, and there's a way around every corner if you look for one!

I don't know of a way to reduce traffic jams at check-in/out aside from a new road or two, but am trying to think how we can reduce in-season congestion.

Like a Smart car or Tata* club where 2nd homeowners or renters get a membership and they can then park their SUV or take a shuttle from the airport and have a small, easy to park, and safe vehicle to use during their stay.

*NOT LSVs, real cars with seat belts and AC!!!

That' is a great idea though Scooterbug. Fractional ownership interests in a Tata type car, or chevy volt, or one of those GEM cars.. I'm for anything that reduces all the huge SUV's that 90% of people drive around 30A all damn day during high times - that's why I support the LSV as 'better' alternative, but I like your about a 2nd car club even better... apart from environmental benefits, if it caught on, it would improve parking nightmares like you get in downtown Grayton or Seaside during high season. I take it your anti LSV from the above however.. I see LSV as part of the practical real solution, but an imperfect solution as well. Sort of like Natural gas or Nuclear, vs. Coal fired electricity.

Ha! Between that thing and the parasailers in PCB, can you imagine the traffic jams we'd have above SoWal!?:D

OK Miss Glass 1/2 Empty (JK :D)
how 'bout something with a more subtle look (think invisibility cloak) for the 30-A hot air balloon trolley?
WHEEEE!

Yes, I recognize that many people drive large cars down to accommodate the people, luggage, and items they are bringing, (or because that is the best car they own for road tripping here) but then once they get here (or fly here) they don't need such a big car to run errands, go to the gym etc.

Due to the maximum speed and traffic make-up on 30-A, I don't find LSVs to be a good and safe fit. They would be good inside Sandestin maybe.
