So I hear that the guy diagnosed with "Extensively drug-resistant TB" who made airline flights after being told by doctors not to fly, is a personal injury lawyer :shock:. Hope he is a good defense lawyer, too, because he might be getting hit with some huge civil charges.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Yup! You're right. Haven't seen this in TV yet. After a lot of Googling, I found his website, http://www.speakerlawfirm.com/. The server is apparently getting so many hits that it's dysfunctional right now. BTW the URL is correct because I visited the site earlier today.

Not only that, but it was on the news tonight that his father-in-law works in the TB lab at the CDC.

However, I heard on the radio this morning that part of the problem was in the actual testing. He knew he had some strain of TB, but was waiting for test results on which one it was. Those tests can take up to a year to come back!?! Meanwhile, he had planned his wedding in Greece.

Not that it's excusable, (my brother flew to Paris on Tuesday; it made me mad to think about this guy!) but one does see the frustration.
 
Yes, his father-in-law is reported to be a doctor with the CDC, and he has been working on the extensively drug-resistant strains of TB. Now his son gets one of the rare extensively drug-resistant strains. Makes you wonder if the son contracted it from his father-in-law's lab, or from his father-in-law. The father-in-law supposedly is regular tested for TB, but has reportedly not been found to test positive for TB.

This guy is a lawyer (intelligent) and a personal injury attorney (should be aware of his liability), and he was warned by Federal Health Officials to not fly again because they feared him spreading the disease creating an outbreak. Yet, he flies anyway!!! :idontno: Narcissist?

I went to another website that mentions Speaker's law firm. I received the message: "This website temporarily unavailable due to excessive bandwidth demands." :lol: You know that every news agency is Googling like mad to get the 411 on this guy.

as a health care worker, i find this tb thing to be terrifying. i get more worried about it than bird flu for some reason. won't be long til it will be all over at this rate :yikes:
 
I've been following this very closely with great interest. There is no way to know if any of us come into close contact with someone with active TB. It's a daily risk. I've read that TB has been on the rise for the last 5-10 years, almost to a new epidemic level. I realize that this case is an unusual, drug resistant case, but TB seems to be in full force again.

My son's pediatrician still tests her young patients annually for TB but said most pediatricians have stopped testing to cut costs, so much of the treatable TB goes undetected until this kids are way into adulthood & it's discovered accidentally (like this unfortunate guy). This is horrifying. It's such a simple test too.

Many, many have it unknowingly.

Just plain selfish and self-centered. Who knows how much the girlfriend was whining! Dumb choice on his part.
