Keep you finger on the pulse of the World's Most Beautiful Game being played on the United State's Most Beautiful Beaches:

Volume IV, Issue 1

Well Hello Greater South Walton Soccer Supporters!

What a Fantastic First Saturday of Footy Action!! The Players and Gaffers (Coaches) were primed and ready, the fields were in excellent shape, and everyone, including many Parents, looked sharp, supportive, and unified decked out in their club's kits and colours. And of course, the action on the pitch was tremendous. But don't just take my word for it. Here's some Match Reports and Comments from those bitten by the bug, known as The Beautiful Game:
U-13+

Fat Daddy's UNITED v. STANDARD de Red Bar

By STANDARD Trainer, Michelle Binkley

On Saturday, Team Red's raw talent mixed with hard work and dedication really showed. They came out with high spirits, good attitudes and were all ready to play. They started out strong, Maguire Foreste scoring the first goal of the season within minutes of the first quarter. Andy Rodriguez, the lead scorer,(with four goals throughout the game) following close behind with the next one. Fiona Wilson, our second leading scorer with three goals for the game scored the third goal and the Reds began with a strong lead in their first game of the season. Mitchell Trantina, our starting goalie, did an outstanding job and had several good blocks. Late in the third quarter he was able to get out of the goal and play some offense and took the ball straight down the field for an assist and then a goal. Spencer Barbeau, our second goalie had a great block and was unfortunately injured. Now one of our older Players and leaders was out, so all of the team came together to make up for the loss, and Maguire ended the half with a pinpoint assist to the center.
In the second half the STANDRD Players really enjoyed moving around and trying different positions. Everyone was afforded the opportunity to play both offense and defense. The well roundedness and cohesiveness of the team sustained at every position. Our leading scorers Andy and Fiona both had another goal as well as an assist. An explosive fast break play by Mitchell and Andy, with a pass and go assist ending with a goal by Micthell. We ended the game with our youngest and newest to the game Player, Daniel Leuze, scoring our final goal! Overall everyone played great. Parker Brammer got to play offense and defense and was a strong addition to the team. Patrick Stone played with all his heart out on that field, throwing himself for every 50/50 ball he could. If he was on defense, he was ready to go and was at the right spot at the right time, while on offense he was working plays and trying to make things happen. Tyler Margaretten, our captain of the defense, played strong and headed up a tight and strong defense throughout the game. He even played goalie for a time and had several stops there as well. Jack Barry, also a strong and talented defensive player, stopped the ball on many occassions and even took a couple steals down the sides for fast breaks. Overall Team Red played great and everyone contributed to the win. GO TEAM RED BAR!!!!!!

Cafe' Rendez-Vous CELTIC v. Canaan's DYNAMO

By DYNAMO Parent, Amy Springer

DYNAMO won our match Saturday, 7-1 against Celtic. Looks like we are going to have a pretty good year! Our Players had the "perfect" goal on saturday! The Gaffer, Billy Johnson, says he has been waiting on that goal for 3 sasons. The Players passed all the way down the field between all three forwards and then Christian Springer passed it to the top of the penalty area to Jacob D'Aleo who nearly put a hole in the net with his blast and score! It was so awesome!!!!! Looking forward to a great season!

U-8 Division

Fat Daddy's UNITED v. STANDARD de Red Bar

By The UNITED Gaffer, Doug Bock

The Fall season got off to a great start as Fat Daddy's United burst from the gate like a rabid black Eagle, foaming at the beak. Like a rolling stone, Dylan Sturdivant gathered no moss as he rumbled in for a quick opening strike. But the mighty Red Menace known as Standard de Red Bar came to play as well, and they didn't take American Express. They returned the favor a few minutes later to tie the score at 1-a piece. A scoreless battle erupted for the remainder of the quarter, with both teams showing great spirit and tenacious D to deny all who would presume to crease the nets.

Come the second quarter, though, the center could not hold for Standard, as the United Eagle spread its wings, with Caden Casillo, Evan Gore, Nadia Bock, and Josue' (pronounced like "Joe's Way" ) DeCarvalho soaring wide to open up the field, while Eric "Big E" Plunk and Dylan "Big D" Sturdivant poured on the pressure from the center, with Dylan scoring twice more for the hat trick. To seal off the backfield, Mathew Christiansen and Elise Plunk, despite their lack of a building permit, put on their hard hats and laid up a brick wall that no ball could pass (unsurprisingly, referee Brian Maas failed to notice their construction activity, which continued through the match). Any stray ball that landed in their brickyard was launched right back into the redzone with some sort of howitzer onto which they had strapped a couple pairs of cleats.

The melee continued into the second half, with some near-misses by Standard and some heroic defensive stops by United's razor-sharp Eagle claws. But the black birds had babies to feed back at the nest, and would not be denied their prey as Evan Gore tore into the net on a breakaway, while DeCarvalho and Sturdivant combined forces for a lethal, lightening-fast final strike.

All the players displayed great skill and sportsmanship, and both teams should be commended for a great match!

Cafe' Rendez-Vous CELTIC v. CPH GALAXY

By The GALAXY Gaffer, Kirby Williams

Very close match that couldve gone either way. Tied 1-1 at half and Celtic up 2-1 at the end of 3 quarters. Galaxy scored 2 goals in last 5 minutes to pull out the W, 3-2. Despite the coaching, playing in the noon time hour, and 3 kids out with the flu, the Galaxy persevered and never gave up. I was very proud of the team. Mac Williams scored 1 goal from field and Michael Nemecek scored 2 goalsthe game tieing and the game winning goals for Galaxy! The Celtic scorers played a great game and should be highly commended.

By The CELTIC Gaffer, Coleen Franek

Our scorers were Jaden Joodi in the first half and Brandon Emerick with a great individual effort to take a 2-1 lead in the 2nd Half. The CELTIC Nation and Bhoys & Ghirls can hold their heads high knowing that they competed until the final whistle and pushed the pre-season favorites in U-8, with no weak links on their squad, to their max. CELTIC U-8 will continue to focus on teaching and getting the most out of each Player, and WE aspire to working together as a team, not unlike a few of the other teams that have been together much longer, to accomplish our goals throughout the season. Three things to count on:
  1. CELTIC will endeavour to improve.
  2. CELTIC will never give up!
  3. The CELTIC Nation will have a blast no matter what!!
'Mon the CELTS!!!

UEFA Champions League

There is a little competition going on in Europe as I type, that much like US98 Soccer's Champions League, includes some of the best of the areas participants, talent, and fans. Some recent highlights or upcoming competions that include teams whose names you might recognize are:
  1. Royal STANDARD de Liege yesterday narrowly snatched an away goal (think of it as counting as 1 1/2 goals) in their competition against AZ Alkmaar in Holland;
  2. Today, in a mouth watering Group Stages match-up, in Germany FC BAYERN Munich takes on Italy's Juventus;
  3. REAL Madrid CF battle France's storied Olympique Marseille in Spain; and
  4. The most popular sports club in the world, Manchester UNITED play host to Germany's Bundesliga Champions, VfL Wolfsburg in England.
A full slate of delicious matches on Fox Soccer Channel, not to be missed with some delicious local food and beverages at local soccer-friendly establishments, Fat Daddy's Pizza, The Red Bar, and Flip-Flops Grill.

Please mark your calendars and make reservations for Sunday, October 18th at Windswept Dunes Golf Course in Freeport! This event will help provide financial assistance toUS98 Soccer's own Coach Jason Thompson, who was diagnosed with one of the rarest forms of cancer known. At just 28 years old, this exceptional self-employed volunteer for, member of, and friend to the Greater South Walton Community really needs our help. You can find out more information regarding Jason and this event and chance to help on his website: www.kickingitforjason.com. Whether financial assistance, prayers, or well-wishes, every bit helps.

That is it for now! This Saturday we are at Helen McCall Park, so check the front page of the website for updated Match Fixtures, as some times may have changed just a little.

Hello Again Northwest Florida Footy Fanatics!

What a Sensational Second Saturday of Soccer Action!!
Again, the action on the pitch was outstanding. But as always, don't just take our word for it. Here are the Match Reports and Comments from those up close and directly involved with keeping Our Kids committed to kickin' it!
U-13+

FC BAYERN 30-A Chiropractic v. STANDARD de Red Bar

By STANDARD Trainer, Michelle Binkley

On Saturday, Match II Team Red Bar had an exciting match. Team Reds offense came out aggressive and took a quick small lead in the first quarter. Andy, Mitch, and Fiona all scoring and controlling the tempo of the game. By the end of the first half, Fiona and Mitch
having two goals the score was 5-3 and everyone was playing well. With an assist for almost every goal, it was easy to see Team Red's passing game is strong and improving. Andy with three assists is a powerful force at the midfield position.

In the second half, Fiona, Andy, Mitch and Macquire scored. Macquire and Fiona both had some good shots that could not be converted into goals. For as dominant as our offense was, our defense was even more. As an explosive and all around talented offense as Team Red has, it was definitely the defense that won the game. Tyler, our goalie for most of the game did an INCREDIBLE job. He saved 14 goals from being scored by diving, jumping,
and all around hustling. Jack had five blocks, and Michael and Andy with two. Daniel, Patrick, and Parker also contributed to our rock solid defense. Parker and Daniel coming through when they needed to in the second and fourth quarters both with solid and crucial blocks. Patrick's speed and agility contributed substantially to both the offense and defense. Team Red Bar ending the game 9-5 and remaining undefeated. 2-0!!
GO TEAM RED BAR!!!!!!!!!!

'Ello, 'ello, 'ello, US98 Soccer Ultras!

Matchday III really saw some inspiring individual and team performances that showed the progress all participants are making!!
Some of the teams and action of note: REAL and BAYERN in U-8, both closing the gap and giving their respective opponents all they could handle; CELTIC v. BAYERN in U-10 going the distance in a 4-5 nailbiter; REAL U-13+ putting a good team performance in and showing how the offside trap can be a defenders friend in this age group; and a classic U-13+ matchup of two balanced teams when UNITED v. BAYERN went into the final quarter tied 3-3!
Yes, the understanding and skills of everyone are improving, as seen in the Match Reports below!:

What an incredible match! Henry Savioe and Dalton Shost played the games of their lives! Wish we had it on video! Henry, playing center defense, was all over Bayern’s center forward preventing numerous shots. He also broke up plays which were developing on the wings.

PLAYOFF Re-Cap & "CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY" at Helen McCall Park

AMAZING PLAYOFF ACTION THIS PAST SATURDAY!

U-13
Royal STANDARD de Red Bar v. REAL Against The Wind

(Gaffer: Michelle Binkley)
This Saturday was the playoff game between Real and Standard. Team Red Bar started out with #11 Fiona Wilson taking it down the field for the first goal of the game. #6 Andy Rodriguez had two goals during the quarter and #5 Jack Barry had an awesome assist to #3 Maguire Foreste for the goal. Near the end of the quarter, #1 Blane Margaretten had an explosive break through the defenders and scored.

The second quarter was dominated by #2 Daniel Leuze and Maguire's great teamwork and hustle. Maguire had an assist to Daniel and only a few short plays after that Daniel had another goal dribbling through the defenders and taking a great shot. On defense Daniel played just as hard, having several blocks and keeping the ball out of his side of the field. #9 Mitchell Trantina assisted it to Maguire nearing the end of the quarter for the last goal of the half.

In the second half, defense was the strong side of the field. #4 Patrick Stone, Jack Barry, Tyler Margaretten, #23 Michael Mayeux and Mitchell Trantina all had several blocks and saves. Throughout the game, Mitchell and Tyler switched out goalie and were both brick walls in the goal. Patrick and #18 Parker Brammer played offense and both had a goal! Standard Team won and is going to the Championship game!! GO TEAM RED BAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fat Daddy's UNITED v. Cafe' Rendez-Vous CELTIC

UNITED Gaffer: Doug Bock
A chill was in the air, and a raucous crowd pressed against the fences as UNITED's tour bus rolled out of the sunset and headed for the tunnel under Helen McCall stadium on Saturday. Manager Dougie "Mutt" Bock had brought the whole band, and all 10 original rockers took the stage to throw-down against CELTIC, their old rivals from their early years playing the Manchester docks. UNITED was flying high, having broken all records with their last 5 victories in a row going platinum, and with 3 band members nominated for MTV awards, but they weren't content...they wanted it all! But late nights and long flights had taken their toll on the band, and when they arrived in the green room to find brown M&M's in their pre-game snack, tempers flared. Head Roadies "Mad Mike" Sturdivant and Vonn Von Umlaut-Plunk quickly talked them down and got them suited up and ready to rock, but it was an ominous sign of things to come...

To a thunderous bass drum beat of goal kicks from Elise "E-lectric" Plunk, UNITED took the stage. Matthew "Mayhem" Christensen and Keegan Younkin-Hicks dropped their signature defensive groove, while lead wingers Caden Casillo, Josue DeCarvalho, Eric Plunk, and Evan Gore laid down blistering arpeggios of offense. But fate had UNITED's number that day, and when they tried to take the field, the CELTIC band refused to yield. With stone temple defense and ceaseless attacks on the net, they rocked two early goals on UNITED before intermission. Backstage, Captain Nadia "I Wanna Rock" Bock rallied the band and they came out rocking, with frontman Dylan "Rolling Stone" Sturdivant and lead guitarist Turner "Cyborg" Porterfield vying for the brass ring of League Scoring Champion. After a series of heartbreaking near-misses, the amped-up Turner burned a single laserlike solo goal into the net, but it just wasn't enough as CELTIC held the day to show that they are truly Monsters of Rock.

It was a long bus-ride home, but it's a long way to the top if you wanna Rock N' Roll. After a few weeks of meditation in India to re-center themselves, UNITED will be back for their final concert...lean, mean, and....BACK IN BLACK!!!

Coach Doug

(CELTIC Parent)
Wow, what a tough match.
1st, Quarter, in what was one of the finest peices of beautiful soccer played in this match-up, Kate Dargavell threw the ball in perfectly to an awaiting and anticipating Jaden Joodi, who then centered the ball to a running on Jack Franek, who dribbled past and several steps with a defender on his back before firmly shooting CELTIC into a one-nil lead in the first half! Kate Dargavell was only just starting to find her rhythm however, and just before the end of the half, Kate latched onto a ball just passed midfield and bended a shot with the outside of her right foot that would have made David Beckham blush. Goooaaaalllaso! 2-nil!!
Still, this was not unfamiliar territory for CELTIC, but ominously so, after letting leads slip away against the opposition two times prior in the Regular Season. Ella "Big Kick" Gritzmacher provided punch in the midfield at the beginning of the second half, Elan Camaret nearly put CELTIC up 3-0, and Risdon Bradley and Mereleigh Camaret provided Girl-Power front to back to start the 2nd Half. However, Turner Porterfield proved his effectiveness yet again, scratching and clawing back a goal near the end of the 3rd Quarter.
It was "squeaky bum time" for the CELTIC Nation Supporters on the sideline for the 4th quarter, and while there were CELTIC opportunities, UNITED held strong. UNITED had their own opportunities as well, and it was only by some inspiring defending by Findlay Townsend, some strong kicks of Brandon Emerick, and some deft touch and fancy footwork by Jaden Joodi, that CELTIC were finally able to claim their spot in the Fall 2009 Champions League Finale!
Great work UNITED and best of luck. Onward and Upward CELTIC Bhoys & Ghirls!!
