Shoppers at a Pinellas County grocery store got a surprise when a deer got inside and began dashing through the checkout lanes. The sheriff's office reports that a young male deer ran into a Palm Harbor Publix Supermarket Wednesday afternoon. Publix staff members were able to corral the animal into an open area between the check lanes and the store aisles. Two deputies arrived and helped the workers catch it.
The deer was checked out by Suncoast Animal League staff and then was released into the nearby wooded area.
The animal was approximately 75 pounds and had short antlers.
No injuries were reported.
