Can anyone recommend a Vet that specializes in cats? I will be moving down to Watersound Beach in mid June for 4 months. I will be taking my little guys down there for the first time and I want to introduce and framiliarize them to a new Vet , in case they need future healthcare service.

I've heard good things about Cat Clinic in the Publix shopping center in Destin. We're currently technically between vets after a bad experience elsewhere, and that's where I'll be taking Dos Gatos next time one of them has an issue.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Barr at the Freeport Pet Clinic. The office does not specialize in cats, but he is a cat man - has five of them himself. He is wonderful with my cats, they behave perfectly whenever we are there.

Everyone I know takes their animals there - from cats to little Yorkies to big old Weimerainers.

I have a helpful hint for you...ask what things cost beforehand. I went to a highly recommended vet here when my pug had a corneal abrasion. He gets these about once a year, they are easily treated with eyedrops. I'd never paid more than $80 at the vet when these things happen, so I never thought to question the charges. She tried to push a surgery, I refused. I was then charged more than $500 for a scratch with no complications!

Dr. Barr in Freeport is good - I've not heard anything about him and cats, but he and his staff enabled my co-worker's paraplegic dachshund to use her hind legs again, after a vet in another town north of here told my co-worker nothing could be done, short of taking the dog to Auburn for study.

That being said, both of our kitties and all three of our dogs are patients at Barry Veterinary, just west of Silver Sands. Our departed pets, Smooch & Puddin', were two of Dr. Barry's first patients when he moved here 20 years ago and we've been with them ever since, through good times and also when facing end-of-life. Dr. Jami Swift at Barry Veterinary is normally the one who sees our cats these days.

We take our little Smoothie to Dr Amy at Kindness Pet Hospital on the west end of 30A for simple things. However, we have to give big kudos to Dr. Jason at Parkway Animal Hospital in Niceville. We realize it's quite a distance from Watersound but we think the world of all those folks over there and we feel it is worth the drive.

I have used Gulf Winds Animal Hospital for years. They are on Hwy 79 in PCB. I have used them for checkups, kenneling and also treating a dog with heartworms. I think they are great!
