The Walton County Public Works Department kicks off the new year with projects old and new throughout the county!
In Driftwood Park (District 4), the asphalt crew is currently preparing and cleaning the walking path and the basketball court at Driftwood Park. These areas are being readied for an overlay to enhance their surface and usability.
On Harrison Road (District 2), progress is nearly complete. The stabilization crew is in the final stages of preparation before paving begins. This week's efforts are dedicated to ensuring all details are finalized for a smooth paving process.
On CR 30A (District 5), the drainage crew is mobilizing to address a drainage issue at House #8754 on 30A, which is affecting the bike path and nearby driveway. The focus is on implementing an effective solution to prevent future problems in this area.
On Bay Loop Road in Freeport (District 1), the paint crew is working on crosswalks County Highway 83A to improve pedestrian safety and visibility.
At the Glendale School/Community Center (District 2), work continues at Glendale School/Community Center. The special projects crew is on track to complete this project by the end of the week, delivering improved facilities for the community.
Efforts are being focused on winterizing equipment this morning in preparation for colder weather. Additionally, the bridge crew is working on developing new Bridge Reports to ensure up-to-date documentation and compliance.

The Walton County Public Works Department maintains the County's network of roads and drainage facilities including right of way mowing, road grading, tree trimming and removal, pothole patching, ditch cleaning, sidewalk maintenance, sign maintenance, and repair/construction of drainage infrastructure.
This Division also provides the service of staking culvert and swale driveway elevations for new residential driveways and follow up through to the final inspection. Additionally, this division responds to natural disaster events, prepares dirt roads for paving, and resurfaces older rural roads.
The Public Works Departments service area encompasses 1046.24 miles of roads (284.266 miles unpaved and 761.974 miles paved), ROW maintenance and 210 bridges.
