NOTE:
Walton County TDC is hiring 16 Seasonal Beach Ambassadors who will work up to 29 hours a week for 6 months.
The job post will be live for submitting an application through February 25.
Interviews will begin March 8th.
The plan is to have a portion start Mid-March and work through September 10 and a second group to start Mid-May and work through October 22, or thereabouts.

BEACH AMBASSADOR-TDC

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: 109

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Lead Beach Ambassador for the Tourist Development Council (TDC), the Beach Ambassador, performs multiple duties relaying the Visit South Walton brand message to beachgoers and supports various activities of the TDC. This position will work up to 29 hours a week, for up to a 6-month period between March – October. Work schedule will be set by the Lead Beach Ambassador on a weekly basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.

•Educate visitors regarding Walton County beach etiquette and beach related municipal codes
•Effectively communicate the South Walton experience, brand, and destination
•Provide Visit South Walton information to visitors and/or partners
•Assist in the organization and delivery of Visit South Walton collateral and/or promotional items to local businesses, restaurants, welcome centers, and airports
•Report violations of beach activity regulations, etiquette, and procedures to the appropriate Beach Code Compliance staff
•Communicate with the public about the beach ambassador program through presentations, speaking engagements, notices, surveys, etc.
•Coordinate with Beach Code Compliance in removing items from the beach that violate guidelines or beach related municipal codes
•Develop understanding of TDC Visitor Center processes and procedures
•Assist in answering TDC Visitor Center calls, respond to inquiries, and route calls to appropriate staff if necessary
•Maintain a clean and safe environment for beachgoers including, but not limited to filling in holes, litter pick up, sand removal from boardwalks and/or ADA mats and reporting any maintenance or hazard concerns
•Adhere to work schedule and attendance requirements
•Performs other duties as assigned and required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•Knowledge of Walton County beach related municipal codes and beach etiquette behavior
•Knowledge of a variety of vacation areas and businesses in Walton County including restaurants, accommodations, tourist attractions, and public beaches
•Knowledge of the South Walton experience, brand, and destination
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
•Ability to represent Walton County and the tourism industry in a professional manner
•Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends, in occasionally inclement weather
•Ability to operate computers, copiers, postage machines, and cash registers
•Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with public officials, peers, other divisions, and departments, as well as the general public
•Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns
•Ability to make oral and written reports, maintain records, and distribute information as required
•Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person
•Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
•Ability to take initiative and work within specified timeframes

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

•Two (2) or more years of customer service experience
•Valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The following physical activities are necessary to perform one or more essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Walton County.

Sits or stands long periods of time. Communicates effectively in person or by using telecommunications equipment. Creates documents, reports, etc., using a writing instrument (such as a pencil or pen) or computer. Grasps, turns, and manipulates objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Moves, lifts, carries, and places objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance. Considerable outdoor work is required. Works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works in high, precarious places and occasionally is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Travel between residential and/or commercial locations to effectively address the business needs of the department.
