It's just a week away and I hope that many of you will take this opportunity to learn about the current state of beach nourishment efforts in Walton County. The workshop will include presentations regarding the success of the Western Walton County Beach Restoration Project that was conducted in 2006-07 and ongoing efforts for the remaining Walton County beaches. There will also be an opportunity for questions of all speakers. I hope to see many of you there.

Will the presenters be showing how the planting of sea oats on the beach in the State Parks has rebuilt the dunes and beach the natural way with very low costs?

You'll have to come to find out. ;-) But I can tell you that they will be showing how the dunes have performed well and are in great shape in the Western Walton County project area where sea oats were planted.

Can we get a report?

I will follow up if necessary, but only one reporter was in attendance and I don't want to shortchange her article. So in support of her sitting through the 1 1/2 hours, I would recommend everyone buy the Defuniak Herald/Beach Breeze and read the upcoming article by Dottie Nist. She is the most educated reporter on beach nourishment issues in Walton County (and I would say the Panhandle) as she has covered this issue for at least 10 years.

One thing I will offer is, "that Brad Pickel sure is smart."

The contract that Seahaven was hired under last year was a three-year contract, but each year has to be executed by original vote and amendment. The County Commission will be voting on executing the second year of the three-year contract. The terms remain the same.
