Walton County TIF Projects Continue in South Walton

Walton County Continues to make progress with construction projects in South Walton via funding from South Walton Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds.

TIF funding is a percentage of funds that are collected via property taxes and are specifically earmarked for projects from the area in which they are collected. The South Walton TIF funds are only collected south of the bay and are only used for projects that benefit that area.

Each year, the Walton County Board of County Commissioners vote on the amount of TIF funding as part of their annual budget.

Below is a list of current and future projects that are currently in place for the remainder of 2021.

Western Lake Basin Drainage Improvements Phase III:
This project consists of a series of cross-drain capacity improvements to Sugarwood Beach, Grove by the Sea, and Gulf Shore Manor neighborhoods in the Seagrove Community. Each of these neighborhoods has a single point of ingress/egress that traverse a floodway. The intent of the project is to improve emergency ingress/egress for the neighborhoods by increasing the hydraulic capacity of the culverts to convey the critical 100-year storm event. Construction of the final phase of this project (San Juan Avenue) is anticipated to commence Winter 2021.

* Phase I included cross-drain upgrades to Satinwood Drive (Sugarwood Subdivision) and is complete

* Phase III includes cross-drain upgrades to San Juan Avenue (Gulf Shore Manor) and is scheduled for later this year.

US Hwy 98 / CR 395 Signal Modifications:
This project involves signal modifications at the US Hwy 98 / CR 395 intersection to implement flashing yellow left arrows on the mainline and signalized crosswalk for pedestrians. This project is intended to enhance safety for pedestrians crossing the intersection and will be constructed prior to extending a multi-use path north along CR 395 North from US 98 to the Choctawhatchee Bay. The CR 395 North multi-use path project is currently under design and a request for construction funding is pending permits from FDEP.
