Currently Walton County P&Z does not allow vending at the public beach access areas. I can see the reasoning behind coke machines and such, but what about our product?

Our sunscreen machines are unique in the way that they do not disturb the "look" of the access. We are able to hang them on walls next to bathrooms, where I believe they will blend in with the decor. This set up allows a space for Visit South Walton to advertise upcoming events in the area, or to display beach safety guidelines.

Our product also comes with a solar panel, which is convenient to place them in areas that do not already have electricity.

The TDC spends millions on advertising and beach safety. I believe providing a quick and easy way to dispense sunscreen to our visitors makes it more comfortable for our visitors, which in turns allows them to go out and spend in our area, instead of spending time renting movies in their rooms.

Did I mention we also have a all natural SPF/ Insect repellant combo? We sure could have used this in the past month.

Thoughts? Is this a decent way to spend our bed tax?

Kurt, have you visited our web sight?

We believe there is a missing link in beach safety in our area. We have all seen visitors walking around looking like lobsters. Our company believes that if we advertise the importance of sunscreen to our visitors, it makes them happier, which in turn keeps them out if their hotel rooms. This means they are enjoying our fabulous restaurants, shopping, bands etc...

There are several options that can be explored. One, would be selling the machines to South Walton. They could hang the box next to bathrooms with an advertising board that explains upcoming events in our area. Money out of the machine could go toward our life guard funding or the local recreational sports programs. We also have a solar option that can be placed where electricity is not available.

The other option is profit sharing. We do all the work, then send whomever a check for their share of the money received out of the machine. This requires no money up front, it basically will cost the price of installation.

SkinShark is very excited to be in the area. We are currently getting ready for the upcoming beach and pool season.

Come visit us this weekend at The Treasures of South Walton Fun Run. We look forward to sharing the newest and most innovative way to protect our visitors, while providing extra funding to programs in the area.

I've been to your website..........and honestly I can't see it at my neighborhood beach access. Not trying to knock your business ideas or anything but I normally don't take money to the beach anyway. The fact there is nothing to buy is refreshing. As far as the concern for the safety of our over exposed guests, I think anyone could point them in the direction of the nearest lotion purveyor. Just tell them its by the beer ;) Good Luck, and hopefully no hard feelings, just my two-cents.

I like the idea but I do not think it is a good fit for our area. As it is now, our beach accesses are inundated with county and TDC signs, quite cluttered I think. Our guests like the uncommercialized appeal of sowal and adding a vendor will open the door to others. Also, most are educated on sun screen and those that are not, are fried before they realize it, therefore a bit late to run up the beach access to find the lotion vendor. I wish you luck.

Thank you everyone for your opinions!

The beach accesses are just a small percentage of our locations. We also provide services to golf courses, country clubs, parks, campgrounds and swimming pools.

We are also available for rent for events held outside. I do know that last year during the singers songwriters festival in Seaside we were regretting not having our sunscreen with us. I didn't want to buy a whole bottle, just needed a little for my arms and legs. $1 is cheap compared to buying a whole bottle then having to haul it around.

Our product is so easy to use when covered in sand, and it sure beats our kids complaining every few hours that its time for a rub down. I also know how embarrassing it is to ask someone's wife to rub sunscreen on his back, it's just uncomfortable.

Did I mention we have a SPF/ insect repellant combo? If anyone has ever spent time at Helen McCall a few days a week, you will know the need for protection.

We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend at The Treasures of South Walton Adventure Run! Arg!

Thanks Kurt!

I look forward to attending the upcoming Public Workshops about the beach ordinances.

As a resident and county beach driving permit holder, I understand and support all laws concerning the beach.

I do have one small issue with the beach chairs on Grayton, but that is only because I'm selfish enough to think there is not room for them and my truck. Maybe this will be addressed.

Thanks again!
