Looking for a place in the Destin/Miramar Beach area for January/February 2009 (possibly into March?). The difficult part is finding a pet friendly owner ... we have a cat, not a dog. She's well-behaved and declawed. We would like to have at least a beach view (would love to try out Ariel Dunes II for what must be fantastic sunset views, but we're open to most any location). Two bedrooms is all we need, but three bedrooms would be considered, depending on rate. Anyone?

You can always try www.vrbo.com and of course the pet friendly rental companies. Do not try to sneak in an animal, it just doesn't work for a long term situation. You also need to post what you are willing to pay. You can probably get half of March, unfortunately with spring breaks starting earlier it's a money issue and most people will cut you off mid-March.

I only know about winter rentals in the sowal area, but if you need info for this terrific and beautiful area, please pm me and I'd be glad to help.

Oops, forgot that important rate detail We'd sure like to keep it under $1550 per month, total.

I have browsed through VRBO numerous times, and sent many requests for info (many of which go unanswered). The pet friendly owners are already booked. I would certainly not try to "sneak" our cat in, for two months or two days ... just wouldn't think of it.

Thanks in advance for any and all tips and suggestions.

A word of caution- ask this question up front: "If I put down a deposit, and book a place for 2 months, can my reservation be canceled if someone else wants to rent the same unit for 3 months?"

Garrett Realty did this to my mom last winter, even after she repeatedly asked the rental agent this same question, and was assured she would "be fine". They happily took her money, then called her 2 weeks later and said, "so sorry, somebody wants your unit for a longer period of time, so we are taking it away from you." Apparently it is in the fine print of the rental contract that was not given to her when she made the deposit.

I don't know if other agencies will throw you under the bus if the opportunity to rent a unit for a longer period of time comes along, but I would check and ask to see a rental agreement with anybody you book with- this situation caused a lot of aggravation.

Wow. That's bad news, jdarg. I sure hope that was a real rare fluke. I'd call that unethical. I have noticed that there are more winter rentals for just one month, which eliminates that condo for a longer rental. It seems that owners used to hold out for the multi month rentals before signing for a shorter contract. Except for just a couple times, we've always worked directly with condo owners and have had excellent experiences every time.

I have just put a 3 br 2 1/2 bath on the rental market. It has never been rented and is 2 years old. We just bought it and have been getting it ready for the rental market. It is less than 2 blocks from the beach and is pet friendly off of S. Holiday Road. I am working on the website now www.rentalhomeindestin.com and it would fit your budget! I am not a large company and would love to speak with you. The Master is downstairs (King) and is quite large. We are cat owners too. Feel free to call me 404-309-2330 (eastern time - Georgia)

Thanks to everyone for your tips, ideas and suggestions. I guess I'm not quite ready to leave Destin itself, so we found a place there again. But I do want to take a close look at 30A while we're in the area. See ya on the beach.....
