I'll give you some advise for free. you're going to spend at least 8-10 k for a fair jeep unless you know somebody. jeeps are well known for breaking down all the time and costing alot of money to maintain. I also live in atlanta and i bought a 1985 mint jeep for 12 k and put 10k in it so i wouldn't have to to drive back to atlanta yearly to get an emmission sticker yearly. if i were you i'd get a yr 2000 or newer and pay up for one with records and a one owner, JEEP stands for 'just empty ever pocket"

Thanks for the advice! I didn't know that. I've been looking for one in the Atlanta because I figured they'd be cheaper than at the beach.

Looking for an inexpensive, used 4WD Jeep to keep in the garage at our home at the beach.

BR, you might try Elite Jeeps at 643 Harbor Blvd in Destin 32541 phone 850-837-5337

They specialize in Jeeps specifically, and spend the $ to replace the wear and maintenance items before putting them on their lot for sale.

Thanks! We'll check them out.

Edit: Oooh, pricey. Just went to their website. We're not looking for a beautiful one. Just one that is reliable for messing around at the beach. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Edit 2: Never mind about the Jeep. I just read that we have to own a 4-wheel-drive vehicle AND be permanent residents to apply for the beach driving permit lottery. I just thought we had to own property (which we do, and it's not a rental). I wonder if my permanent handicapped placard would help me get a permit? I'll call the Clerk of Courts office on Monday. No way I can walk from the beach walkover at Grayton to the water. :sosad:

If i'm not mistaken to get a permenant disabilty card you must be a permanent resident which means license, voting card etc otherwise one can get a temp disability card for when they're done there. I have a grandfathered sticker from out of state and to even be in the lottery is only instate permanent.

A handicap placard does help, but it has to be a Florida one apparently.
