Friday morning I witnessed another dog being hit on 30A. Just west of Magnolia, a yellow lab was struck by an east bound motorist around 8:00am. I don't know the seriousness of the injury, the owner rushed out, pick up his pet and hopefully got it assistance.
My point being, please, everyone keep your dogs leashed and in your control, at all times, losing a precious friend is too heart breaking for locals and our friends visiting. T
The folks traveling 30A, often don't have time to react to our pets running across the road, so they can't be held totally responsible.
More importantly though, if it can happen to our dogs, our kids and folks on bicycles are in jeaprody as well.

I know dogs get out for various reasons (gate left open by a meter reader, or you have a door-darter) and can run loose (it's happened to me!) but I've also seen quite a few people who walk with their dogs not on a leash.

Most of the people who do this -- non-leash walking -- act as if it displays their ability to control their dog with mere commands or it signifies their dog's obedience skills and good temperament. Even if your dog is very placid, it's better for your dog and for everyone else if your dog is on a leash! An inexperienced bike rider can spook your dog into the road, another more assertive dog can go after your dog and give chase...you just can't account for everything that might happen, so why not put your dog on a leash?? It's just not worth the heartache for you, your pet, your family AND unfair to the driver of the car who might happen to hit your dog.
