Water temperature

We are visiting the Destin area (Miramar Beach) at the end of this month. The only other time I have been to Destin was last August. The water was like bath water. I know that will not be the case this time. I was curious as as to what the water temperature is currently like and what it usually is at the end of May? Is it warm enough to swin in at this time?

We were in Rosemary Beach in early May 2004 and are returning in mid-May this year. In 2004, the water was plenty warm to swim. I don't know what the exact temperature was, but it didn't feel the least bit cold.

Running warmer than normal for this time of year. Probably around 80F right now.

We were just there the week after Easter and the water was very refreshing. We had no trouble swimming and boogie boarding. The color was absolutely beautiful! :clap_1:

I think it's warm enough to swim in. We always go to Sowal the last week of May, the week prior to Memorial Day. The weather is perfect, the water is beautiful then. My only hesitancy about getting in the water is not the temperature but what else is swimming around in the water. Sea rays and sharks and jellyfish, oh my!

The water is nice already. Probably not quite 80F yet, but getting closer. Cancel that! This is May. May is a horrible month to visit the beaches here.

not bad, deep water in the bay is still cold but the flats are warm - cool last night enough for a windbreaker

tons of rusty squid jetting around the rut and a few big rays near the beach, but no jellyfish observed at all outside of st andrews pass

It's warm here in Gulf County. Mid-to-high 70's, I think.
I've been swimming every day I possibly can for the last three weeks.

The NODC station at Pensacola is reporting 81.9F. The closest buoy observations nearby are all around 76F. Still a little chilly, but definitely preferable to the bathwater conditions of July and August.

since it was so early yesterday, we unhitched the boat and drove down to cardena's for some fresh yellowfin tuna and i ended up jumping in at spyglass before we left since i was already soaked from the rain - wasn't bad at all, kind of lukewarm once you got used to it - it was at almost low tide and there were lots of live olive shells and sand dollars and a handful of sand eels on the first bar - no jelly fish and the one stingray i saw in the rut had to be a grandaddy at least - you'll love it - visibility about 15 feet and a lovely offshore wind that means no biting flies on the beach
