Wednesday Oct 6

Rain, Rain, Go AWAY! Unfortunately, it’s here to stay. At least throughout the next 24 hours. ⛈ See below for the latest from US National Weather Service Tallahassee Florida and US National Weather Service Mobile Alabama:

▪ A Flash Flood WATCH will continue throughout this evening. Walton County is at a MODERATE risk (20-50%) for excessive rainfall and significant flooding is possible, specifically within South Walton County.

▪Expect to see multiple rounds of heavy rain through Wednesday. An additional 1-3 inches with isolated higher totals will continue through today. Within the last three days, areas in Walton County have received up to 8 inches of rain, causing localized flooding on our roadways.

▪ Significant flooding is possible in South Walton County, with widespread and significant flash flooding likely. The heavy rain combined with saturated soils will result in the potential for flash flooding.

▪ Strong winds and a brief tornado will be POSSIBLE for today, due to the amount of instability and shear in the atmosphere. Today, we are expecting a MARGINAL risk for severe storms throughout the Western Panhandle.

▪ For those who have the potential for structure flooding, sandbags are available at the Blue Mountain Beach District 5 Road Office, located on Highway 83.

▪ TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN - Please stay OFF of flooded roadways and report any problem roadways to Public Works (850) 892-8108 or the non-emergency WCSO line (850) 892-8111. See here for the road closure list for Walton County: Walton County Road Closures

Please stay safe and leave any questions below!

Heads up, South Walton ‼️

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for Northwest Florida. According to our partners at US National Weather Service Tallahassee Florida, road closures and water rescues are already underway throughout the area.

DO NOT underestimate the power of flooded roadways and water. It only takes a foot of water to carry away a small car. Approximately two feet of water can carry away most SUVs, vans, and trucks.

In other words... Turn Around, Don't Drown! Do not attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. We warn you of this for the safety of yourself and the first responders who would be called to rescue you.

Hang in there, everyone. It looks like sunny skies are forecasted for the weekend. When the sun does come out, check out the beach flags and potential hazards. Do your part to stay safe, we're here for you!

If you have a car or minivan and you're heading to ECP you might want to find a truck or SUV. The entrance is almost impassable. Approximately 3 feet of water and parts of 388 are totally under water.

What have we had - like 18 inches of rain in the past week?

Wake up Walco - we are now living in a subtropical soon to be tropical environment. Expect more rain every year. It seems between road paving and bike paths we have created lakes where water use to drain. I know a lot of areas are draining where they didn't before but it appears we need a whole new survey and plan for the future.

You don't remember what happened when we got 24 inches in 24 hours?
