The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to 1,762 incidents during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Dozens of deputies were on-duty to assist citizens and visitors with an average response time of six minutes.
“We responded to nearly 200 more incidents than this time last year,” said Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson, Jr. “The law enforcement presence ensured our local communities and visitors were safe during the busy weekend.”
The Walton County Tourist Development Council estimates that hotel occupancy was at approximately 90% during the extended weekend. On average, the WCSO responds to 650 incidents on weekends. The elevated response is attributed to the influx of visitors over the holiday weekend.
The uniformed patrol division, marine and K-9 units were on-duty to ensure the public remained safe while they enjoyed the beautiful Walton County beaches. The law enforcement presence resulted in 132 traffic citations and 26 arrests.
