Great thread rapunzel!

It would be truly wonderful if Rivard, Beach Rentals, et al, could let the community know of owners willing to rent longer term to anyone evacuating Gustav. I drastically discounted long term rental for 2 of my rentals during Katrina (and made them pet friendly too !)

I tell you it was heartwarming handing over a set of keys to 2 families who had only the items in their truck or automobile. The mother of one family just broke down uncontrollably in my arms.

People, there are plenty of empty houses here!!!

I just read your post on the Gustav thread and thought...
"Here come the first evacuees."
I just really hope & pray these "models" and projections are accurate. I am not up for Hurricane-type surprises this week.

Pet friendly is a big deal. Anyone who has rentals may want to post if you're willing to make an exception. It's probably about time for the end of season deep clean, anyway.

From Johnny Earles who relayed this message:

Gustav evacuees, friends, and all,
We have a few accommodations left for hurricane Gustav evacuees. Our owners are providing a 20% discount off rental rates and Criolla’s is offering the same for everyone starting Sunday, August 31st through Thursday, September 4th (Criolla’s is closed Monday, September 1st).

Watercolor has some pet friendly rentals

Watercolor has quite a few pet friendly rentals still available. All the owners were contacted and many agreed to allow pets due to the evacuation.

We have two pet friendly houses available at a discounted rate for Gustav evacuees. One (VRBO 114472) is rented beginning Sept. 12 but we could accommodate guests starting tomorrow. The other VRBO 43410 is open all month. We've already had two calls from families evacuating. Unfortunaley we were booked for the Labor Day weekend.

Thank you! I was thinking abou this very issue...we were already rented out to vacationers for the Labor Day weekend through Tuesday. I am glad to see there are still places available.

Yes, welcome. The threat of the TS Fay and Hurr. Gustav, has run our usual visitors off for two weeks now, so come on over. Fortunately for you guys, rooms/houses are readily available. Everyone I've ever met from NOLA has been super-good peeps, and we love super-good peeps, so WELCOME. There are many kind and generous people who read this message board, so let us know if and how we may help you.

I think we need a good activity idea...four boys, ages almost 2, 3, 7, and 10. I think they are bored and little stir crazy.

I could learn a lot from the ten year old. I think at my age doing the whole evacuation 3 years after Katrina, when life was finally getting normal, would be too much. He's just taking it right in stride....
