We are staying in Seagrove for our vacation and have an appointment to take our car in for service tomorrow morning in Ft Walton Beach. We'll have a loaner car so we are wondering what might be interesting to do while we're waiting for the car. Places to see, eat, etc???

Air Force Armament Museum- take Eglin Pwky/SR 85 north and it's a little bit north of Shalimar. It's not as big or shiny as the Navy museum in Pensacola, but has a pretty nice collection of planes.

The only chain restaurant the mister likes (and likes to the point where we're over there once a week) is Tijuana Flats on Eglin Pwky. Yes, it's Americanized Mexican, but addictive.

The shopping is largely better over Destin way, but one thing FWB has is ethnic markets. We like the Thai/Asian place on Racetrack Rd. just a little west of Publix, which gets you some ingredients that are otherwise hard to find in the area.

Downtown during the daytime can also be worth walking around a bit. I've had fun browsing through the running store, yarn shop, the place with all the Coca-Cola knickknacks and think Maas coffee has some of the best product in the area.

Ali Baba on Mary Esther cut off is a great turkish restaurant. The Bay Cafe under the Brooks bridge is a local's secret for lunch & dinner. You can dine dockside. The best Thai restaurant in the area is off of Racetrack rd and it is called the Thai House. Fort Walton has great ethnis dining options due to the strong military presence.

Science Museum down by the Library/Landing area is fun. And, if you've never been to Eglin AFB, you might call the Public Affairs Office and see if there is a tour...The Climatic Hanger is especially interesting.

Everytime we visit the area, my FIL and husband HAVE to get GodFather's pizza. We used to have one in our area that closed many years ago, so they like to relive in the old glory days. All I know is it's by a Dodges Chicken. ;P

Also, it's worthwhile to check out the fishing pier even if you don't fish. At least one day during our stay, the the guys go fishing down there and after a morning of shopping, we'll go visit. I think it's just $1 or $2 to walk out there, but it is pretty neat. Since the water is so clear, so can see straight to the bottom. Jellyfish, sea turtles, dolphins, sting rays. You can see them all!

Is the Indian Mound Museum downtown still open? I've never been, but always wanted to.
