I am from New Orleans and am now living here in Destin (for 1 month now). I live close to the bay on the edge of Destin. My three favorite foods are Sushi, Pizza, and Mexican. I am so used to having great food and so far Destin Restaurants have fallen short.

I need recommendations for where I can find (in your opinion) the best Sushi, Pizza, and Mexican food joints in Destin or surrounding areas.

Pepito's for Mexican..heading west on 98 turn right on Main St past Winn Dixie and left into the first shopping center, I believe. Piza over there is the Mellow Mushroom across from Winn Dixie in the beachy looking small plaza. Sushi..Harbordocks I enjoyed and Osaka's is ok too, but they are expensive relative to what I was accustomed to. In the same plaza as Pepito's is a place I can't remember for sushi that some folks really liked.

i agree with elgordoboy about harbor docks, they have the best sushi in destin...very fresh.

for mexican food, pepito's is good & inexpensive, but i really like la paz, right on holiday island...they have seafood dishes, like grouper quesadillas & fish tacos. i have heard good things about a mexican restaurant that is supposed to be really authenic it is behind the shopping center that old time pottery is in, it is on main street right before the post office, it is behind a specialty meat market. but i have not been there.

i love ciao bella pizza & the one right by the destin bridge (next to mcguire's) is my favorite one. or fat clemenza which is out in miramar beach has great pizza, too. if you want t venture out onto 30-a pizza at amore & delicious with a cool outdoor seating area.

i know what you mean about the food in new orleans. i was there visiting my sister recently & we had the best gourmet pizza one night, middle eastern food one day for lunch & then vietnamese another night! it was all excellent! i wish i could get that variety & still live in a small town!

Gotta agree here... LaPaz is my fav too. But, that's probably because I like my Mexican food a little more leaning to the TexMex side. I'm a SELA/NO/BR native if that makes any difference  Not that it has anything to do with knowing good Mexican food...

For Mexican you'll need to drive about 600 miles west to Texas!! But I hear that Meza Luna is owned by a Texan so give that a try! You can always make your own Mexican food, I can send you some recipes if you wanted to give it a whirl, it's kind of fun to have your own fiesta!!

I love Ciao Bella pizza, excellent thin crust, good greek salad.

I am a fan of Mellow Mushroom as well but we have one locally now so we skip it in Destin these days since we eat it at least once a month at home.

We had pizza at Fatdaddy's, it was in a shopping center on Hwy 98 east of Sandestin, northside of the hwy. It was full of baseball teams and families, very local, good pizza in a sports bar atmosphere-we watched some baseball game that my husband had to see while there!

Angelina's and Yianni's, both on 30A had good, solid pizza with nice thin crust.

No sushi rec's from me, I can't talk myself into eating raw fish, I'm from the country, and just can't do it!!

Destin Taqueria is what you are thinking of I would imagine...the butcher sold out to the taco peeps. I've been a couple of times a while back and it was not worth returning to. Someone at La Paz must surely have dropped the cumin jar in the salsa the one day I ate there, so I should probably get over being angry at them and try again before continuing with condemning them.

Didn't you just land a job with ResortQuest?

I think you'd better get serious about socking the cash away--this economy going into the Fall is going to be brutal.

I suggest you stick to brown-bagging bolgona sandwiches and start cooking at home. Sushi??? Are you serious??
