Hi! I will be bringing my Mother down next Spring and have a question regarding the best community to stay in.

I am looking at The Crossings in Watersound, Blue Mountain Inn in Blue Mountain, and a unit at Sanctuary by the Sea in Blue Mountain. (3-4 BR gulf front)

I would appreciate any opinions on the above areas. Looking for an area which is low density but close to dining options,

Thanks in advance for your time!

I'm obviously biased, but Sanctuary by the Sea can't be beat!!! It's brand new and top of the line. I own unit 2118 and it's available for rental. Check it out:

Blue Mountain Beach, Florida vacation rental by owner: 3 bedroom Condominium rental that sleeps 8. Brand New! 3 Bedroom at Sanctuary by the Sea

How mobile is your mother? Some communities along Highway 30A are high above the beach level, resulting in going up and down many stairs steps to get from/to the beach. That's a plus for owners because it means more protection from storm surges, but probably a negative for older people or people who take a boatlaod of stuff to the beach every day and then must remove it at the end of the day according to local law.

I believe Blue Mountain (the key word is "Mountain") is pretty high off the beach. Anyone out there can correct me if I'm wrong. Watersound is not high off the beach, plus in an absolutely gorgeous gated community. Disregarding elevation, I'd choose Watersound.

Not trying to get off track. But could somebody please tell us which beaches have the steep walkovers. I know Grayton is pretty flat. I don't mind some but am afraid for my family the really large ones might get to be too much also.

A local might know better than I do. Grayton is flat, but unless you own property and can get a beach permit for your vehicle, it's a long walk to the water because the beach is so deep. A potty emergency would be a problem.

Someone please correct me on this if I am wrong. Gulf Place and west (Dune Allen, etc.) is pretty flat. Blue Mountain isn't. Grayton I mentioned above. Don't remember Watercolor beach (too focused on checking out the real estate). Seaside has stairs (somebody help me -- how many?). Seagrove is well above beach level until you get to Summer's Edge, the lake, and just east of the lake, all of which is pretty low. Watersound West doesn't have stairs, but just a long, humid walk over a beautiful pond. Watersound is low, and if you rent a golf cart, you can park it right at the beach. Seacrest and Rosemary are both elevated.

Jhanes,

That double bunkbed is way cool--is it custom made?

.
Not sure if that particular bunk is custom made, but most children's furnishings stores sell similar bunks. Some even have desks attached. I've seen some really cool configurations.

It's been a while, Shelly? :D

My family just came back from a fabulous vacation at Watersound. We stayed in building C of Crossings which is on the east end of the Watersound property. We had quick and easy access to the board walk which goes over a very pretty pond/river and then to the beach. Walk was not long and no stairs were encountered. The beach at Watersound and particularly to the east end is very quiet. From our unit at Crossings, it took us 7 minutes to drive to Rosemary and 9 to 10 minutes to drive to Seaside. Alys Beach and Rosemary now have many many great restaurants serving meals at all times. It's way too hard to pick a favorite but if I had to limit my restaurant eating I would choose Paradis and Onanos as two "must do" restaurants. Loved their food and service was great as well.

The Crossings is a great place, Blue Mtn Inn, make sure you have a view, and I would question the beach access for Sanctuary.
