The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge is seeking wildlife enthusiasts in the Santa Rosa Beach area who are interested in volunteering to assist the ECWR in rescuing injured and orphaned wildlife. You would be trained by the ECWR to safely rescue such animals as turtles, herons, pelicans, songbirds, baby squirrels, baby opossums, and others.
We also have an immediate and urgent need for volunteers to transport wildlife that has already been rescued and placed in containers to the ECWR facility on Okaloosa Island in Ft. Walton Beach.
Rescue and transport volunteers ideally would have some free time during the day, or could commit to being on-call for a day or two a week.
The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge is a privately funded nonprofit organization dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation, conservation, and environmental education. The Refuge’s clinic currently provides emergency rescue services and medical care for over 2,000 animals a year. Represented in this number are about 165 different species including countless numbers of birds of prey, songbirds, foxes, raccoons, bobcats, dolphins, small whales, and sea turtles. The Refuge’s daily operational goal is to rehabilitate and release all orphaned and injured wildlife back into nature.
