Hi SoWal,

So this topic might be a little out of season, but all replies welcome. I may have the opportunity to relocate to sowal in the fall. But I'm a bit worried. I tried this a few years ago. It was too late in the season to land a local job (my background is sales, restaurant, mgmt). But another problem at the time was man did 30a get isolated!! I felt like I saw the same 5 people everywhere I went lol. Yes it was peaceful and beautiful but wow it was just too quiet. So I'm wondering how you year round residents stay connected and productive? Or just out of curiosity do you live and work elsewhere in the dead of the winter? I did meet people who went to Colorado, the keys, etc. Thanks!!

Awe come on! I want to stay there without going schizo lol. Some of you seed cool
And normal but are you bored? Are you employed? Did you travel back and forth?

We're into college football and basketball, so we have no problem striking up a conversation at those restaurants in SoWal that allow TVs. We meet a lot of people that way.

We also have neighbors that we like.

And if all else fails, there is a lot of need everywhere for volunteers for causes and organizations that you support, so you can meet people that way.

Personally we like being at our home at the beach in the winter, hibernating, and watching sports and movies. Except for this year due to the bad weather, we typically make frequent hits for dinner at the bar at Borago and at Pizza Bar.

Frankly I like quiet as long as I can get to Atlanta in five hours when I want to. I couldn't deal with living in metro Atlanta full time. If you think traffic is bad on 30A in the summer, it doesn't compare to traffic in my hometown of the ATL every day. Even the weekend traffic in ATL has recently gotten worse. I dunno why.

I've seen plenty of people move here and can't adjust to SoWal time so they leave. They need the city life. If you are already worried....

Well I tried it already, think I just wasn't prepared especially as a single gal. If I try again I'll know what to expect and would definitely need to be working. But yes it is definitely not city life even though it has that busy crowded feel during season. I'm not knocking it, it was just freaky to go out on the beach at the west end of 30a and not see a human for miles lol. I adored all the wildlife sightings. Even the coyote in my neighborhood that was taller than my 80 lb lab/pointer mix!

Yeah, I am not real fond of being at the beach in the off-season without my husband. I get your point.

The single thing rarely works. Most of the single girls here have drunk themselves insane in a desperate attempt to appeal to the insane single men.
