Deputies say woman was attacked by bear in Walton County

According to Walton County Sheriff's Office a woman was attacked by a bear this morning.

"WCSO has responded to the area of 8866 US Hwy 331 in reference to woman attacked by a bear," officials tweeted. "Patient has been transported to Sacred Heart. ... FWC has been notified. WCSO still on scene."

This is a breaking news story and we will have more information as it becomes available.

That address shows on Google Maps as near Rock Hill Rd between Freeport and I-10.

Sounds like she is ok,

There was no bear hunting allowed in Walton County/Eglin last year.

WCSO AND FWC RESPOND TO ANIMAL ATTACK ON EGLIN PROPERTY

Tuesday at 8:12am Walton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to a woman possibly attacked by an animal on Eglin property. Walton County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of 8866 U.S Highway 331 South along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The victim was transported by Walton County EMS with non-life threatening injuries. There is NO confirmation at this time to WHAT type of species was involved in the attack. Florida Fish and Wildlife will be investigating. The Walton County Sheriff's Office would like to ask residents to please be aware of the situation and make proper precautions.
