I don't see it working in major US cities, but it may have a great deal of potential abroad or for large office parks or industrial complexes etc.

I would think people would just drive a Smart car though - room for stuff and highway legal. :dunno:

Or they could drive a Toyota Corolla which is far bigger, gets almost the same fuel economy, and costs WAY less.

I understand the concept behind the Smartcar in Europe where streets are tight and parking a premium, but over here they're just a gimmic. Just my opinion, of course.

I do see your point, though, for office parks and industrial complexes, but I think golf carts have those bases covered!

I keep looking at the picture and thinking "Asia". From the MSNBC article it seems like they are trying to find a new market by producing an urban renewable vehicle that costs a fraction of a car. These have an edge over golf carts in inclement weather, but that's pretty much it.

Smart Cars are great in larger US cities where parking is at a premium - you can can park 2 Smart cars or 1 SUV or sedan.

I would NOT drive a Smart Car (not very smart IMHO) in a large US City! My golf cart is probably safer.

Do they still make the Corolla? That is a pretty good car!

It looks clearly safer than a bicycle, faster, and more maneuverable (the Segway). It's also less work.

After riding a motorcycle 70 miles round trip on I-285 to work everyday at the Atlanta airport, my sense of safety is SOOOO skewed.

I passed a little yellow Smart Car (had a prestige tag that said "LOL") a few weeks back on 285. The first thought through my head was "that's one crazy son of a beeeatch riding that little thing on 285."

Yeah...I was on the motorcycle! :funn:

I wonder if casket type handles are an option on that thing? I would not want to be prepackeged for the hereafter driving that around.
