I just got back from vacation at Yellowstone National Park and guess what headlines are dominating the local media? The Answer: Oil Spill in Yellowstone River. I had hoped to escape to an unspoiled wilderness as the BP oil spill has left me with a tremendous frustration of the power of oil companies as it relates to politics, regulation, environment and economic damages. I could hardly believe these headlines. How can this be? Record snow melt, high river volumes and unregulated pipeline maintenance in the Yellowstone River. Oil companies must find that it is easier and more cost effective to "contain" an oil spill rather than "prevent through proper maintenance". It is not like they did not have any warning of an impending high river volume because of "record" snow fall. The pipe line is only about six feet below the surface. Is there nothing an oil company can do to protect the environment from oil spills? Maybe it is our fault for not being more conservative in our demands for energy. Will the outcries for punishment in the oil industry be silenced by the increasing demands for oil?

On this very beautiful day I have found my "perfect beach" but I wonder how long it is going to last. Maybe it will last my lifetime but it will not last forever if we do not demand serious consequences to the abusers of our natural resources.

What do we do,where do we go when the oil companies have destroyed all our unspoiled regions. We went rafting on the Yellowstone the first of June. The beauty there, as the beauty ofthe Gulf ,is breathtaking. I'm so glad my grand children have seen these in the event big oil takes it all away.
