I had a good friend in Denver who was a very successful model. She got her start in Milan; she was the real thing. She told me a few stories.
Modeling agencies are not particularly interested in fit, healthy and feminine looking women, and it probably never will be.
Clothes show well on tall, thin women. Always have, always will.
But the standard has become *extreme* the past ten years or so.
The people in Madrid were making a statement, and may yet back down.
However, maybe people will think twice before making the next hollow-eyed, Kate Moss-like waif the new modeling superstar.
I like being thin, I don't want to be fat.
But I have known far too many women with eating disorders. More than one was hospitalized. It's really sad and sick, and I hate to see that kind of gaunt look so celebrated.
Our society is so polarized these days. There are those who have a neurotic fetish about food and being slender, and then there are those who get married and/or turn 30 and then immediately gain the obligatory 50 pounds.
I guess I just wish there could be a happy medium.
