In Panama City Beach, I fondly remember Miracle Strip Amusement Park...and even the old "Top O' the Strip" tower. To a teenaged girl from desolate, quiet, isolated Point Washington, there was nothing like of being on the "strip" on a summer Saturday night - or during AEA.

In SoWal...the places and people I miss are too numerous to list. I'm saving those for my novel. ;-)

Ah the strip. I used to call it Animal Kingdom. There wasn't much to Sowal when I was a kid. Most people called it BFE. I have fond memories of Ed Walline park and some certain Cranford boys house for a party almost every weekend. I really can't think of any hangouts besides the beach and friends homes. If anyone can, help me out.:dunno:

Are those your pics? Who is the mother and child?
I have some of those same pics of my kids, especially at Miracle Strip. The same picture of the swings and I marked where the kids were. FUNNY!
When I was little my mom would take us ONE time to PC to the Miracle Strip. My dad didn't understand why anyone needed to leave Grayton Beach! So when my kids came along I continued the tradition. They could choose Miracle Strip or Ship Wreck or something else. That was it! So many great memories!

Then it was just The Store. Playing cards. Pin ball. Juke Box. Hunky bars. Fudgcicles. Yum! Magnolia Cave. Orange Mountain (which is Gulf Trace now). Dune Buggys over the dunes (oops). Bon Fires in the dunes (oops). Jumping out of the Washaway into the sand dunes (oops)! Western Lake, swimming, skiing, sailing, whatever! Looking for that special boy! Driving to Destin and knowing that when you saw the Green Knight you were there. Such a long drive!

We were really, really BAD, weren't we???? Dune hopping and bonfires on the dunes...no permits. No life jackets on any of our boats, but we did use the ski belt when we skiied in Western Lake. If we'd had a dog he would have run loose. But then those were the days when if you saw two people on the beach it was considered a crowd. Steele Mama, you didn't mention underage drinking?! I didn't do that, but I'm sure it happened at Grayton Beach.....How 'bout sliding down the huge dunes by the State Park....when there were dunes?!

Yeah, the Green Knight was the Big Chicken of the beach.

Those were the days.....

No, those aren't my pics. They cam up when I did a search. I'd like to thank the people who did take those pics though. My daughter can say she at least got to go to Miracle Strip once before it closed. She was born in June of 2004 and we went the weekend before it closed. She was 6 weeks old. I hate it that she won't share my memories of the place. :sosad:

As for the dunes and bonfires, I don't think we did near the damage that the structures on the beach have done. ;-)

I did the same thing on several occasions in Grayton - 1970's (mid). I was with the Sholes' family visiting from Bham on quite a few wonderful trips. We kids were just kind of on our own, with our own jeep (we were maybe 12).
