Great thread for sure, Merm. We'll be driving 12 hours beginning around 7:00 am on Wednesday to get to Western Massachusetts Wednesday night to spend Thanksgiving with my sisters, nieces and nephew, and my cousin-in-law Pina. For those of you who lost loved ones, I send you my sympathy and sweet memories for the holidays. We lost my Mom 4 years ago and my cousin Tony (Pina's husband) this past May. It's still sad for sure but we also hold onto the traditions with even more devotion. I think that's why we have holidays and why the traditions last centuries -- They help to hold families together pretty much no-matter-what.
We have most of the same traditions that we used to have but now we do Thanksgiving at one of my sister's homes. We'll have a sit down meal with antipasto (including some great chicken liver on toast, prosciutto, etc.), followed by lasagna made by Pina, followed by turkey and all the stuff that goes with it, followed maybe by a walk, followed by fruit/nuts/cheese/dessert (semolina pie), followed by after dinner drinks and the traditional singing of the Italian and American Christmas carols with Adam Sandler's Hanukkah songs thrown (a newer tradition). Uncle Buck will most likely attack the kids with a water pistol and they'll get him back big time somehow.
Then we'll watch Survivor at 8:00 to see if my brother-in-law lasts through another week or if he's voted off.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
