Now I know I was born in DeFuniak in the afternoon, but it wasn't yesterday
afternoon. And I'm new to the e-Bay 'scene'...

Recently bid on tickets to UF v OSU game...got outbid but then started
receiving 'Second Chance' offers from the 'Seller'.(s). Since I've received
11 such offers (from 11 different sellers) so far, I just kinda sorta figure
something is 'not right'.

All say contact them directly..not e-bay and most have a 'hotmail', etc, return
address.

So, let's be careful out there

King, I don't think I have ever bought anything off of ebay, but I have heard a few nightmare stories sounding very similar to your situation with ebay.
For example, one couple was on tv last year after they received their bogus tickets for the SuperBowl, which they paid about $2500 for each of the two tickets. These were normal, working class people who had saved for many years to go to the game. Ebay could not help them get their money back due to the following. The couple went to the ebay sight where someone had tickets for sale. However, at some point, the buyers were contacted or directed by the sellers to go directly to the seller's website to purchase the tickets... and the buyers did. That is where Ebay stops. The couple went to the sellers site and purchased the fake tickets, and were sh_t-out-of-luck. Ebay stated that if the fake tickets were sold on Ebay's site, Ebay could take action.

Glad you are not fresh off of the turnip truck and were able to avoid what sounds like a scam.

I know NOTHING about e-bay....
I have a friend who was engaged to an e-bay addict...he buys tons and tons of "stuff"...his house is full of crap...alllll over the place ..it looks like a goodwill store..only not organized.....you can't even walk in any room in his house without stepping on "stuff"   (books, clothes, boxes, magazines, trash, empty water bottles, etc ....unbelieveable!)

kingfishn, we buy on Ebay quite a bit and my husband gets second chance offers periodically. But his come to his email but through an email generated by Ebay which is the proper way. A lot of people that sell on Ebay have their own stores. I would be leery of those emails you are receiving. When you click on contact seller on Ebay, say for instance when you have a question about an item, that does go directly to their email. You just do not see their email address. What we see a lot is spoof emails from someone claiming to be Ebay wanting us to update our personal information. Ebay does not do that. I get them on my personal email also and I am not the one registered on Ebay, my husband is. So I know that is fake. :D

You just have to be aware and pay attention. I have made over 400 purchases over the past 5 years and never had a problem. I buy mostly books and cd's and a few hard to find items.

for a game of this magnitude, i would only buy through ebay or through a 'legit' scalper's site. this event is ripe for rip-off artists.

also, never buy 'live concerts' CD's through ebay. they are 95% bootlegs gotten for free and replicated, then sold. pretty much any concert out there has been taped and the show is available for free.

I've had no problem ordering things on EBay. I bought lots of new quilts and a few other things (a Topo Gigio on Ed Sullivan DVD; my husband ordered and got a nice Tasmanian Devil 1970s glass after he broke mine and then replaced it -- he actually got two nice ones on EBay; a really nice old Italian cookbook and a book about the sea "The Sea Brings Forth" that Aquabiotic recommended on a thread a while ago) and always received them on time and in good order. But I've never gone to anyone's else's website once I started something on EBay, and I never ordered a service/tickets -- just stuff.

I'd like to sell some things on EBay now that Mermaid has inspired me to clear the clutter out of our house as a first step to get it fung shui'd. But I'd probably just bring my stuff to one of those stores that does it for you and takes a cut -- or I'll just drop it off at the Salvation Army.

I love Ebay, but have never bought game tix there...and I'd be real leery of those "second chance" offers.

They could be legit...in bowl games, only a fraction of the available seats are reserved for either team. The great majority of seats, particularly sideline mid-field, are held by corporate sponsors. Also, scalpers snap up a good percentage for any of the BCS game. :pissed:

Try Ticketmaster, or some of the other scalpers sites...and assuming you are a UF fan, try to make friends on some of the gator message boards. There are always boosters / season ticketholders that order bowl tix and later can't go.

We bought a great CD of the Beatles from Russia but sold by someone in Great Britain on Ebay. The footage was a lot of different film clips and concerts and show appearances from all over the world. Best CD we ever bought. And well worth the money.
