WASHINGTON - A major manufacturer of pet foods sold throughout North America under dozens of store names is recalling millions of containers of its products while working to determine what caused kidney failure and some deaths of cats and dogs.
Menu Foods said Saturday it is recalling dog food sold under 46 brands and cat food sold under 37 brands and distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. The pet foods were sold by major retailers, including Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.
A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates is available from the Menu Foods website, http://www.menufoods.com/recall. Consumers with questions can also call (866) 895-2708.

:sosad: It said kidney failures, and isn't liver disease more progressive? :dunno:

the list appears to be off-brands, or not any of the major, well-known brands. thankfully, I didn't see our dog food on that list! thanks for the heads up mangy!

Unfortunately, Eukanuba and Nutro Max are both on this list. And I was out doing errands yesterday morning and stopped in a Petco in the same shopping center I was in and told the manager about my dogs age and situation with him not eating any dog food, and him not eating well and being sick. She helped me select 5 different pouches of food for him to try just to see if he would eat any of it. Three were by Nutro, one of which was Nutro Max Gourmet Classics which I fed him when I got home, and fed him a pouch of the Eukanuba Savory Chicken bites in gravy around 4:30 in the afternoon. I called the Petco where I bought the food and a girl answered and I told them I had been in there around 10:30 and a woman helped me select some pouches of food for my dog to try and get his appetite going, and I told her I had fed him a pouch of the Nutro Max Gourmet Classics which I found was on a recall list along with other Nutro varieties and Eukanuba. I then proceeded to ask her where they aware of the recall and she said yes, and I said, but you proceeded to sell me and other customers this food knowing it had been recalled. Why wasn't it pulled from the shelves in your store? She tried to give me the number for menu foods but then put me on with the manager who had helped me. And she told me what she had sold me was not any that was part of the recall. How does she know??? It said Nutro Max Gourmet Classics and Eukanuba chunks in gravy in cans or pouches. Were they given lot numbers on these items to check for? And do you actually think they would go and check every lot number on every pouch and can of those brands to make sure they were not some of the recalled food? I wouldn't think so. My dog is 13 and already sick from a prostate infection and not eating well and now I have this to worry about this since he did consume two pouches of brands named in the recall. I didn't recall seeing Eukanuba on that list when I looked at it yesterday morning. I've never heard of most of the other brands they named other than Ol Roy. This makes me angry and worried. :sosad:

Lady, the Nutramax says cans only and has UPC codes if you click on their site. If you got pouches, you shouldn't worry. It loos confusing because they put can or pouch, but then they list only cans in the recall.
Eukanuba's site is down for maintenance.
