My guess based on what I saw was that a waverunner was operating too close to the beach and hit someone. We saw law enforcement questioning waverunners over there around 2pm, then saw 2 patrol boats take off at high speed w/ lights flashing when we were entering the harbor, and later saw they had a guy in handcuffs.

Yet another example of why personal watercraft should be outlawed. And I am semi-serious here. Why is it these craft always tend to be operated by people with very little conscience or sense of responsibility? Bunch of redneck mulletheads who can't afford a real boat. :bang:

Rant complete.

I was almost run over by a motorboat the other week during a regatta (a 25' sailboat is not exactly low on the horizon w/ 2 sails up) and later witnessed 8 "cigarette" boats racing each other. Idiocy and unsafe operating are not limited to jetskis, but they do seem to be the poster children for them.

COPS actually was down in Destin to film a while back during spring break, and ended up stopping filming early because they weren't getting any good action. Apparently they didn't realize Destin draws a different crowd and Panama City Beach over spring break.

Not everyone who rides waverunners are redneck mulletheads. My husband and I ride them out in the gulf. Of course, we do not rent them and take them out ourselves. We just do the guided tours. But we always see people out on the waverunners running parallel to the beach, and we've never seen
anyone hit by a waverunner. And besides, some people may prefer a waverunner over a boat. It may not always be that they can afford a waverunner and cannot afford a boat, both are expensive. In our case, we couldn't afford either one.

The last time I priced some PWC's at the bike shop on hwy 331 in Freeport, they were a strong $10K to $14K so I don't agree with the statement about the buyers not being able to afford a real boat.

True. But you must admit, a certain "type" of individual seems to be attracted to waverunners. An over-generalization on my part? Maybe. But I call em like I see em.

I can't say, as I don't know many jet ski owners, and don't see many operators of jet skis around here. I've never been craziness enough to go to Crab Island either, but I would venture to guess that there is not a lot of difference in the color of the necks of the people on the boats vs the people on the jetskis.

Very true, since their other watercraft are probably big stinkin' loud airboats, and they are big $$$ too. Sorry, generalization.
