NoHall, GraytonBound lives on top of a big rock in TN, so she probably doesn't have the sandy soil which we have.

Regarding using mushroom compost in your garden, if you use it, you better not use a fresh delivery, because it will burn your plants. Give it a week or two to breathe. I love mushroom compost.

 I didn't know that. Even so, the recipe works for NYC rooftops and backyards in Gainesville, GA. I still have faith in it!

'Bout time you chimed in on this. Where have you been? (The bagged mushroom compost is usually okay without the breathe time. Do you concur?)

A while back when I started veggie gardening, I read that planting basil and marigolds in the garden helped repel bugs. I have been planting them every year and don't have a bug problem.

It doesn't repel the chipmonks from eating my maters just when they are ready to be picked and they are wasteful little creatures. They chew a neat hole right smack in the middle and leave the rest.

which is which :dunno:

Good question. I keep a close watch on them and look for signs of the bugs eating the plants. If I don't see those signs, I assume that the bug is eating other insects which might try to invade the maters.
I do know that in the past, I've had a problem with the Tobacco Hornworms, and I smash the smallers between my fingers. They eat the heck out the maters and mater plants. Google image them and you will see what they look like. They grow to rather jumbo sizes.

I have 2 really fat cats. They are useless. Although one of them caught one the other day, and brought it to me while I was planting flowers.
I thought it was dead. Laid there all stiff like with it's legs sticking out, didn't even blink. So I went to get the pick up and came back and all of sudden it jumped off the pick up and my cat was chasing around my legs. Looked like a scene from Tom and Jerry. I tell you, they are fat and useless.
