Amen! to all of the above. The cell phone thing kills me. I had a bite of food in my mouth, in a restaurant one time, (indicating that I was actively eating) and this idiot behind me asked me for a pen so he could write down a phone number from someone on his phone. And, I can't begin to tell you how many times I have been trying to relax at the nail salon when there is a big mouth on her cell phone rambling on, and usually very loudly. If you honestly can't leave home without having to call someone, you need to have therapy.:bang:

You know what pet peeve is kind of fun? People talking on handsfree devices in public. I don't know how many times I've had someone in Lowe's or somewhere look straight at me and say something like, "I don't know. Whatever you think. Try the blue one, then."

And I look at them, look for the blue one, and realize what's going on.

And then I start having a conversation with myself out loud. Sometimes they'll point to the earpiece as if to explain. The first time it happened was in the county records room with a lawyer I knew. After he finished his conversation he asked me what the heck I was doing. I told him I was talking to my imaginary friend on my invisible phone.

Yeah, the cell phone thing is pretty annoying. I hate it when someone holds me up in traffic because they can't hold a cell phone in one hand and maneuver a turn one-handed, so they slow down traffic and sometimes even just stop. The other day someone held up my husband due to her cell phone use; he held up his hand formed into an imaginary cell phone (pointing thimb to ear and pinky to mouth), and the woman flipped him off.

Another thing that bugs me is people talking on cell phones in doctors' offices. I don't mind someone receiving a short call (like from a concerned spouse), but long conversations should be carried on outside the office.

It's also annoying when people carry on long conversations in an enclosed space. One day I was having my car serviced, and they don't give loaners unless the anticipated wait time is at least 3 hours. There was a woman in the waiting room who obviously had her office calls forwarded to her cell phone. She continuously said, "Hello, this is Allstate Insurance. So-and-so speaking." Then she'd start a lengthy business conversation. Basically she set up her office in the waiting room. I finally got tired of it and walked outside to drool over the 760Li with the 22's (LOL) and the Bentleys.

Sometimes when it gets really obnoxious I'll go stand or sit near the offender and start making comments/suggestions on their conversation. Then when they say "I'm sorry, this is a private conversation", you say "no it isn't, everyone can hear you!"

Of course the best way to reduce cell phone chatter is by not taking calls yourself and turning the damn thing off!

1. cell phones! why do people with cell phones think that manners do not apply to them in public places? I never could understand this. why is a cell phone even permitted in a restaurant? can people not enjoy a nice lunch or dinner without placing a call or receiving calls, annoying everyone around them with an overly loud conversation? not to even mention the obnoxious loud never ending cell phone ring tones. why must we all be subjected? call me old fashioned. I leave the phone in the car whenever I can, turn it off, and use it for my own conveneince, in privacy. Sometimes I even leave it at home!:yikes: I mean, I lived rather happily before the cell phone ever came into existence. Do people feel more secure or important when holding a phone in their hands? Do they have to be in touch with friends and family constantly? its an obsession, IMO.

2. people who habitually complain in restaurants, and speak rudely to servers/workers.

3. parents who treat teachers as second class citizens, speaking to them with disrespect and forgetting that the teacher works very hard to educate their children in a safe and nice environment.

4. people who talk non-stop but somehow never enter into any meaningful dialog with others. it never occurred to them that the listener has a life that may be interesting to know or ask about.

4. rude, ill-mannered people (all of the above).

I so agree Toots, I love having my cell phone especially when I'm away from my kids but I do not talk on it constantly...I save the conversing for home and use my cell out of neccessity.

Kitty--I hope you feel better! (And that your rain leaves you and comes here. Then we'll all be happy?)

New pet peeve: My dryer needs a new belt. My windows need cleaning from the outside. My garage needs to be re-roofed. We won't even talk about all the yard work that needs doing. I'll do all these things eventually, (not today, but eventually,) but I just spent the last few hours cleaning my car. It needed waxing.

I should be waxing my legs instead of my car. I'm a girl, dadgummit. Where the hell is my husband?
