If I had to judge Publix by that measure, I'd never have groceries. That place smells like Ye Olde Holiday Whorehouse this time of year.

Cinnamon Brooms:puke:

I thought it was just me. What was Publix thinking when they put those brooms out?

My philosophy is if I can't find it at Target and Publix, I don't need it.

I went to Wal-mart a couple of months ago after not being in the store for a long time (I was in the neighborhood). Needless to say I was disgusted at everything from the crappy produce and meat to the lack of service and selection. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I won't be back by choice. I was a "regular" before Target changed my life.

My family in Utah swears that Walmart smells like vomit and they don't go near it.

Beachbummett, we don't shop there for those same reasons and more--the fact that they are now running commercials extolling the fact they have lots of checkout lanes open this holiday season is very telling; they have to try to redeem themselves because of how terribly they treat their customers, even.

If you think the produce in Not-So-Super-Wal-mart is crappy, let me invite you to Kelly's Grocery Store, located in Freeport. I should take photos the next time I'm in there. Every cashier in there has a cough, year-round, and I'm not sure if they have the Flu or if it is smoker's hack, or a combination of both. I used to think that Winn-Dixie was the bottom of the barrel, but I'm telling you that NotSo-SuperWalmart looks nice and shiny compared to Kelly's.

When I was hiking to Maine, I remember hitching a ride into a couple of towns which had a NotSo-SuperWalMart, and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. They had everything and more, that a person could ever need or want, and they even had air-conditioning. It was easy to spend three to four hours in there, just looking at all the crap that I didn't need. Where else can you go and play with so many toys for free? I guess people's thoughts of WalMart come from there own experiences. I've been working on being at peace when I enter the doors of WallyMart, but there tend to be a lot of rude people standing in between me and peace.

There's a tag line for you: "I've been working on being at peace...but there tend to be a lot of rude people standing in between me and peace."

That describes my whole Christmas frame of mind, and why I won't go to Wal Mart OR the Mall OR Target during Christmas...

Well SJ, I suppose you could always apply to be a greeter at Wal-Mart. YOU wouldn't be rude. It sounds like you are feeling the love about Wal-Mart (or wish that you could). :dunno::rotfl: Good luck with that.

Saying that I am a fan of Walmart would be wrong. I think they have sh_tty business practices from what I've read, seen and heard. In fact, the only thing good about them is their price and convenience of being one stop shop. However, those come at the expense of our health, other local business owners, jobs of locals, jobs of Americans, and with higher risk to our country as we rely more heavily on imports. The produce may be all nice and shiny, and the toys may be fun to play with, but there are more important things in life. I never knew that Publix in WaterColor was expensive until I walked through the grocery isle at Walmart.

Again, I'm not so high on NotSo SuperWalmart. I'm just less excited about Kelly's in Freeport. Makes me scared to park in the parking lot, much less actually walk inside and have coughing clerks put their hands on my food. Everything is relative.

I would think that with so many people being on tight budgets these days, Walmart would be winning more customers than it is losing, based solely on the price of their goods. I'm sure they sell a bunch of junk, but they also carry those same brands of every grocery item you can think of, unless you are a Whole Foods shopper.

They were thinking either

A) There are a lot of incontinent old people who will probably have visitors over the holidays and will need something to drown out the reek of urine in a way those subtle and delicate Glade Plug-Ins can't.

B) Camp Creek Kid's family may be in from Utah...we must do something to hide the vomit smell!
