Thanks everyone for all your kind words about Daisy. We buried her this afternoon in her favorite spot, wrapped up in the baby towel that my mother sewed for Alex and Philippa years ago. I tucked in a can of tuna fish so Daisy would never be hungry, laid the slate on her grave and left some fresh daisies for her. We've all been a little weepy today. It's going to take some getting used to not having her around.

This is a sad coincidence that you're asking this question because Merman and I have just walked in the house only an hour ago. By all rights we should be in Seagrove Beach right now, but we had to turn around because our children's beloved pet cat Daisy died the day after Christmas. We're going to bury her tomorrow morning in my antique hat box, right under the downspout near the porch. She used to like to sit there and suntan so it's is a good place for her to rest forever. I'm going to dig the hole really deep and lay a heavy piece of slate over the spot and plant a garden around it so that even if we move, no one will disturb her accidentally. I always thought we'd cremate Daisy, as we have with our other pets whom we had to put to sleep in their old age, but Daisy died in our bedroom in Philippa's arms. She died at home so she will stay at home in our garden, close to us.

I am so sorry. I know that I will need time off from work when my Simba goes.

if you wish to be cremated, make sure your family knows it has to be done within 24 hours, or you will by state law get embalmed anyway.
It is a law in most states that if you dont not wish to be embalmed that you must be buried in 24 hours and that there can be no public viewing. That has to do with the health risks associated with decomposition etc. (found that out when my mom passed, she had left specific instructions to NOT be embalmed)

My understanding was that if you wanted to be cremated you had to wait a specified period or have an autopsy to rule out foul play since the cremation obvioulsy destroys any evidence.

I didnt have to deal with any "sudden death" complications since she passed from illness in a hospital. But I guess if it was sudden or if you had no illness to associate it with that might be a different story. But you can still be cremated even after embalming and a viewing,as was my Father-n-law. But I have a niece that worked on the machines that they use to embalm you, and after hearing those stories, my mother was like.."oh h377 no..you not doing that to me!"LOL

So has anyone heard that we are currently without and Medical Examiner and in the event you die you would have to be transported to Tallahassee or Pensacola?
