Seriously though, some of my fondest memories of Ohio involve SNOW!
Sled Riding at Packard Park after a big snow....
Ironically I had never been snow skiing till I moved to Florida. I spend 21 year in Ohio and never went skiing. I finally went Snow Skiing a couple of winters in a row about a dozen years ago up in Seven Springs, PA. It was wonderful, magical, dreamlike, all white and fluffy and fireplaces and lodges and big flakes and night skiing and all the great stuff that goes with it.
Year two we had little snow and lots of freezing rain. I paid all that money and drove up there, my asp was going to go skiing. I skiied the whole time on ice, got many a bruise and "burn", soaked through and through and haven't been back since.

My bestest memory was in my teens... either Sterling Rose called me or I her, I don't remember, but it was 2 or 3am.... Huge flakes were coming down, as big as my hand, Ohio turned into the most beautiful winter wonderland that ever existed. SR lived a few miles away. She and I met halfway, walking out in the snow till lawd knows when. Ours were the only tracks in the snow. She had on a long black ankle length quilted coat, with her long butt length blond hair down her back, and we were walking her German Shepard. It was straight out of Dr. Shivago. I'm so glad that I've got a 33+ year friend that to this day I don't mind if she calls me from Ohio at 3am and screams "ITS SNOWING". I could just about hop on a plane....:love::love:

And don't think for a moment I was going to let this opportunity pass without a Broadway Showtune. (ahem)

(Feel free to sing along.
You'll feel warmer I gare-un-tee it!)

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

Now dontcha feel all warm and fuzzy?
I do, but that could be the Hot Toddy talking...

No, I don't like winter. I don't like cold weather. Love spring, love summer best, love fall.....except I know that winter is coming. I love a fireplace, but I can turn on the air conditioner and the fireplace at the same time and enjoy it.

I like to fly into Aspen occasionally just to see the snow, but then I'm ready to get out of it in about three days. I truly don't know how my northern friends can take it day after day for long periods of time. First time I went to Chicago FFF and I flew up in April.....we left the ground in Birmingham it was 83....we landed it was 32. WTH?! I had to buy a coat....and wear it...in the snow....in April!

April?

My clients always ask me about when they should plant their tender perennials, and I tell them to wait until after April 15th. My mother likes to point out that I was born April 11th, and there were flurries the day I was born. It snowed again the day she brought me home, on the 15th.

After the second consecutive ridiculously mild winter, some of my clients didn't listen to me last spring. Hard freeze on Easter morning, April 8th...goodbye blossoms...

DKA, I prefer HOT IN HERRE as per Nelly over any of that snow $hit:

I was like, good gracious a$$ is bodacious
Uh, flirtatcious, tryin to show patience
Lookin for the right time to shoot my steam (you know)
Waitin for the right time to flash them keys
Then um I'm leavin, please believin
Oh, Me and the rest of my heathens
Check it, got it locked at the top of the four seasons
Penthouse, roof top, birds are feedin
No deceivin, nothin up my sleeve and, no teasin
I need you to get up up on the dance floor
Give that man what he askin for (oh)
Cuz I feel like bustin loose and I feel like touchin you (ah, ah)
And cant nobody stop the juice so baby tell me whats the use

[Chorus x2]
(I said)
Its gettin hot in herre (so hot)
So take off all your clothes

[woman's voice]
I am gettin so hot, I wanna take my clothes off

Oh

Let it hang all out

Why you at the bar if you aint poppin the bottles
What good is all the fame if you aint blankin the models
I see you drivin, sportscar, aint hittin the throttle
And I be down, and do a hundred, top down and goggles
Get off the freeway, exit 106 and parked it
Ash tray, think its time to spark it,
Gucci collar for dollar, got out and walked it
I spit game cuz baby I cant talk it
Warm, sweatin its hot up in this joint
VOKAL tanktop, on at this point
Your with a winner so baby you cant loose
I got secrets cant leave Cancun
So take it off like your home alone
You know dance in front your mirror while your on the phone
Checkin your reflection and tellin your best friend,
like "girl I think my butt gettin big"

[ChorusX2]

(nelly let it hang all out)
Mix a little bit a ah, ah
With a little bit a ah, ah
(nelly let it just fall out)
Give a little bit a ah, ah
With a little bit a ah, ah
(nelly let it hang all out)
With a little bit a ah, ah
And a sprinkle a that ah, ah
(nelly let it just fall out)
I like it when ya ah, ah
Girl, Baby make it ah, ah

Stop pacin, time wastin
I gotta a friend with a fold in the basement (What?)
I'm just kiddin like Jason (Oh)
Unless you gon' do it
Extra, extra eh, spread the news (check it)
Nelly took a trip from the Lou to Neptunes
Came back with somethin thicker than fittin in sasoons
Say she like to think about cuttin in restrooms

[Chorus x4]

(nelly let it hang all out)
Mix a little bit of ah, ah
With a little bit of ah, ah
(nelly let it just fall all out)
Give a little bit of ah, ah
With a little bit of ah, ah
(nelly let it hang all out)
With a little bit of ah, ah
And a sprinkle of that ah, ah
(nelly let it just fall allout)
I like it when ya ah, ah
Girl, Baby make it ah, ah
Oh

How is it different?

How is Indianapolis snow different from the New Hampshire snow from my childhood. Oh, about 10 feet different.

You know how A/C is an essential part of life in the South? Try substituting "A/C" for "snowblower." That about sums it up. You'd shrivel up and die if you didn't have one or the other, depending on where you live. We're really lucky here that most of our snow is only 3- 6" at a time, and that's easy and funn to shovel. And winter doesn't last as long here either. My sister in Maine sometimes has snow in her yard in May. NOw that's plain ridiculous. :yikes:

Good information, isn't it? (And if you buy me a present that costs more than $50 bucks, I'll feel bad.)

Here's the funn part about my birthday: I was born Easter Sunday, but my birthday only falls on Easter every 11 years. Isn't that strange? It falls on Sunday more than that, but because Easter is not the same Sunday every year the syncing up of the two is further apart.

(For those of you who don't know, Easter is the first Sunday following the first full moon following the vernal equinox. I didn't know that until I was in my mid-20s.)

I didn't know that until my late twenties, or right now. I always used a calendar.

You share a birthday with my sister. My other sister's birthday is on 5/12, and inasmuch as you get Easter every now and then, she gets Mother's Day. You're right; it is kinda neat.

 My mother was born on Mother's Day! (And she was adopted the same day--very cool story...)
