Well I guess I should have started my program years ago. I wanna say too little too late, but my doctor says I'm on the right track.

I'm just getting home after three days in the Hospital, on a Nitro-glycerin drip, and MRIs, and eco-cardiograms, and liquid stress tests and dang near dying, and folks, I'm so glad we have this thread and each other, cause the point is, its not just about looking better, but living better, and quite frankly saving your life.
I've learned that most of my issues were genetic, and I had everything going against me.
But all that is going to change now, it has too. I'm looking foward to this healthier happier chapter of my life.

I've heard nothing but great stuff about weight watchers and am going to look into that tomorrow. Right now I'm going to sleep!

Its good to be back. Heck, I'm just glad to be alive.

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
Welcome back, DKA. Sounds like you are now doing all the right things.

I found it takes about 3 months to notice the first big difference, then 6 before it starts feeling more routine, then at a year it feels like normal life (though I think it would still be easy to stop the routines which is why it's good to get support and keep measures such as weight/BP/etc. to stay honest and motivated). Weight watchers sounds good, too, and personal training is great (though it can be expensive).

Though sadly I wouldn't be able to be there, perhaps SoWellers on SoWal could get together once a week somewhere nice (and healthy) for a light breakfast/lunch (dinner would be too tempting), walk, yoga, etc. and support each other and look forward to being healthy together. I'd join in when I'm there, though.

Take care of yourself, DKA.

I think it IS endorphins. When I USED to work out w/ a trainer, he always suggested I eat an apple or a banana for energy on my way TO the work-out... and then
DRINK TONS OF WATER not only during, but also AFTER. It helps flush all those toxins out of your system that get "riled up" during the workout, and helps your muscles to "repair".
I always found breathing (never-the-less breathing "right") to be a really difficult thing to remember to do...duh.
GO IBD!!

I joined Weight Watchers last week to lose a stubborn 10 pounds and that's one of the things they really stress--drinking lots of water. And they're very clear that it has to be "unaltered" water. Diet soda, tea, and coffee are fiine but you have to get the plain water in. And you're dead on about endorphins. I have to push myself to walk the neighborhood in the winter but every time I make myself do it, I'm always glad that I did. Exercise really is a mood lifter. Of course the MP3 player stuck in my ears helps a lot, too. ;-)

Had flu shot November 15th! We have a bunch of Nurses come in and give them to all the employees at work for free. When you work in close quarters with 1300 people, you can't take chances!

I emailed Weight Watchers the other day, asked them about special diets for high blood pressure, lowering cholesteral, tryglicerides, etc- this is what they said- which of course makes sense.

Dear Ken,

The Weight Watchers? Food Plan is designed to meet nutritional recommendations for healthy people. If you have medical conditions that include a special diet (i.e. diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, food allergies, etc.), you are encouraged to take the Weight Watchers food plan to your physician or dietician for review. Adherence to modifications made by your health professional must be your responsibility.

Sincerely,

Hadi

I have a follow up appointment on the 24th and will set up appt with dietician.

On my own I'm already down 6 lbs and holding. My goal is 24 lbs by this time next year. 18 more to go!

Mr IBD may thank you for it later. I swear Southern Cooking clogged my arteries. (gotta blame it on something).:D

Keep up the good work.

I just checked my insurance,-doesn't cover dieticians/nutritionist. I may have to go the old fashioned route. Read a book. Not like I haven't already read everything about this already and haven't practiced what I've learned.
