I did make Hamburger Helper Beef Stroganoff one night, to try to prove a point. I forget what the point was...but I get a box of HH and some hamburger meat and think, "This will teach him a lesson." So, I get home and look at the package and think, hmmm...I'll just mince a little onion and garlic to brighten it up...saute that then add the hamburger. Then I deglaze the pan with a little red wine. Toss in a sprig of fresh thyme as it simmers. Throw a little Plugra on the the noodles, sprinkle with sea salt and fresh ground pepper...Voila! Punishment!

The thing is, to me cooking is more of a chore if it's not interesting. I'd much rather do a cooking project that spaghetti. It's the boring weeknight dinners that kill me.

I need a Spanish or Caribbean cookbook. Anyone have any good suggestions in that arena?

:lolabove: Sounds to me like that box of Hamburger Helper inspired your inherent creativity quite nicely! Interesting discoveries from unexpected sources ...
BTW... what is PLUGRA?

My sister and I both have Penelope Casa's book "La Cocina de Momma, the Great Home Cooking of Spain. She IS the authority on Spanish cooking and incorporates the flavors of different regions into the book.

I've not seen the Williams-Sonoma cookbook, but I like pictures and I know that the recipes are not hoity toity. I may look for that one Mermy at the Library. One thing I hate about some cookbooks are things I will not eat or can't find. Rabbit being one of them.

I am the say way about cooking Punzy. If it's not fun and creative, why bother. That takes time, and I haven't had it years past, so it gets to the point where cooking becomes rushed and monotonous. But, when I do have the time, MANgo gets spoiled because I go on a cooking spree. Now I just do it intermittently otherwise he stops trying to cook. Can't have that now, can we?

French butter. American butter is mostly water- real butter, like Plugra is AMAZING.

Publix carries it!!

I think she is being a smarta$$. I can't imagine a boxed dinner with the name "helper" anywhere on the package would make it into Punzy's grocery cart, much less through the front door.
so just what are you saying about people who do actually cook the "helper" meals????:dunno:

She will not do it. She once made hamburger helper to prove a point and it was freaking awesome (which pissed her off) and she once made one of your standard boneless skinless chicken breast meets Campbell's soup recipes (with a few custom touches) and it was out of sight. She refuses to feed my inner redneck.

Rapunzy, can we have meatloaf tonight?:dunno:
:rotfl:innner redneck, you know rednecks can cook pretty good...

like I said yesterday, I have about 30-40 cookbooks at my house. Some bahamian, spanish, etc.

I'll check it out (and also have my parents taste test & tell me if it's anything like the fresh churned butter they made as kids.)

:lol:Really. Does Punz strike you as the Hamburger Helper "and I helped" kind of girl? She makes everything from scratch!

Well, it is good(to some) quick and easy and economical....so she does not have to eat it, seemed like skunky loved it.... I generally make everything from scratch as well but sometimes just opening a box or bag is just great!
