From the National Association of Colleges and Employers (www.naceweb.org), the top ten starting salaries by major in 2007 were:
  1. Chemical Engineering $59,218
  2. Electrical Engineering $55,333
  3. Mechanical Engineering $54,057
  4. Computer Science $53,051
  5. Information Systems $49,966
  6. Civil Engineering $48,998
  7. Economics $47,782
  8. MIS $47,407
  9. Finance $46,442
  10. Accounting $46,292

see... wireless isn't on there because it's not taught anywhere but here but it's somewhere inbetween Electrical and chemical... it's considered electrical but it's a little bit higher because the jobs that come from it are more "selective" i guess you could say... and i know i'm about to get ripped on for my technical answer so just bring them on kimmi, jessi, and whitey

FYI: Most firms are having a hard time finding enough engineers in Atlanta lately, so MEs are getting more than that...

One of my students who got his Ph.D. in computer science at Auburn last year did his wireless work in the computer engineering department -- I think that's part of electrical engineering. Wireless is a good field to be in. The best is nanotechnology which started out as part of mechanical engineering, according to my hubby who has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.

What kind of engineer are you studying to be? We are starting petroleum engineers at $90k.
Will they be working out on the oil rigs in the Gulf? There were a lot of recruiters offering big bucks at Tulane and at UF for engineers with a B.S. degree, but no one we knew was interested due to having to be out on the rigs.

Phead could keep a great tan out on the rigs, though.;-)
